Pacific Disaster Center.  Regular, Full-Time, RCUH Non-Civil Service position with the Pacific Disaster Center (PDC), located in Kihei on the island of Maui.  Continuation of employment is dependent upon program/operational needs, satisfactory work performance, availability of funds, and compliance with applicable Federal/State laws. 

MONTHLY SALARY:  Salary commensurate with qualifications. 


  • Works under the general supervision of the PDC Deputy Executive Director and in coordination with the Executive Management Team (EMT) and Communications/Outreach Specialist.
  • Creates, curates, compiles, edits, and provides quality assurance of all content included in PDC reports and outreach materials for internal and external communication.
  • Activities include but are not limited to: a) Compiling and editing periodic and ad hoc activity as well as performance reports, profiles, and other documents for review and submission by the Executive Director or designee(s) as required. b)

Working closely with the senior staff to create and edit content. Assisting with dissemination of information to improve knowledge about PDC. Collaborating with the Communications and Outreach Specialist, internal stakeholders, and the management team to create original documents and designs. Working with similar groups to support development of project profiles, past performance reports, and other documents. c) Working closely with the Communications and Outreach Specialist to create and curate content, and to write, edit, and oversee production of PDC outreach materials. This includes professional reports to clients, professional papers for association journals and publications, original web and social media content, and printed outreach materials. Packages presentations, outreach materials, and other PDC publications for both technical and non-technical audiences and appropriately for various channels. Maximizing use of publishing venues to publicize PDC information. Understanding media and publication formats and requirements. d) Archiving and managing PDC editorial and proposal content including photos, past performance, staff biographies and other related materials.

  • Oversees the PDC editorial process, including but not limited to coordination, editorial corrections, final editorial review, template development, copyright considerations, quality assurance, and consistency in presentation and attributions for all PDC publications. 
  • Prepares, reviews, and edits all internal and external documents including proposals, project reports, brochures, press releases, web pages, and other content intended for social media. 
  • This includes editorial reviews and assistance with grant and other funding proposals.
  • Maintains schedule for PDC publications. 
  • Assists with PDC response operations to actively communicate and disseminate information related to disasters in a timely fashion across various channels, including social media.
  • Assists with the creation and editing of communications including but not limited to response products, stories, and various public relations content.
  • Assists with fielding customer inquiries and routing issues to appropriate internal teams in accordance with customer communication standards. 



  • Bachelor's Degree from an accredited four (4) year college or university in Communications, Journalism, English, Marketing, or related field.    


  • Three to five (3-5) years of relevant experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.


  • Understanding of written and visual communications concepts including design, authoring, layout, publishing, and web and social media platforms.
  • In-depth knowledge of technical editing practices including reporting and application of established style guides and templates. 
  • Working knowledge of the English language, especially grammar, spelling, and punctuation.
  • Strong design sense and familiarity with Adobe Design Suite.
  • Strong familiarity with how to develop and package content for different channels (e.g., traditional print, web and social media).
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills.
  • Ability to work effectively as a member of multiple teams.
  • Ability to write and curate content for different audiences.
  • Ability to adhere to principles of design in helping to develop materials.
  • Expertise with Microsoft Office Suite and proficiency with publishing tools such as Adobe Illustrator, InDesign, video publishing software, and social media publishing tools.
  • Strong decision-making skills.
  • Detail oriented.
  • Ability to work within schedules and meet strict deadlines. 


  • On-call support during non-business hours may be required during a disaster response.
