REPORTS TO: 

Farmers’ Market General Manager

THE GOALS OF THE HFBF LLC’S FARMERS’ MARKETS ARE: 

To support agriculture in Hawaii by providing a venue for farmers in the state of Hawaii to sell Hawaii grown and produced products; To give growers and producers of Hawaii agricultural commodities and other farm-related products alternative marketing opportunities; To promote the sale of Hawaiian grown farm products; To improve the variety, freshness, taste, and nutritional value of produce available in the local area; To provide an educational forum for consumers to learn the uses and benefits of quality, locally grown, or prepared food products; To enhance the quality of life in Hawaii by providing a community activity which fosters social gathering and interaction; and To preserve Hawaii’s unique agricultural heritage.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES: 

The On-Site Farmers Market Coordinator is a part-time position with primary responsibility for the day-to-day operation of the specified Farmers' Market. This will include an on-site presence at the Market prior to, during and after market hours. The coordinator will report to HFB Farmers' Market General Manager. In addition, the coordinator will represent the Market to the Market’s vendors, the consumers, and to the community.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: 

Arrives two hours prior to the start of the Market and remains throughout the Market hours and closing of the Markets to:

  • Place market signs, cones, dining tables, HFBF tent or table, and parking signs as needed
  • Properly place vendors in stalls and making on the spot adjustments as needed
  • Ensure all state and county regulations are adhered to; communicate and file written violation report to vendor and GM
  • Ensure HFB Farmers' Market rules and regulations are adhered to; communicate and file written violation report to vendor and GM
  • Maintain Market in safe manner, to include safe entry and departure of vendor vehicles so that pedestrians are not in danger
  • Walk the Market to make sure customer lines are not blocking walkways, service roads and other Vendor stalls
  • Ensure trash receptacles are regularly emptied and vendors are taking their trash with them
  • Staffs HFB tent/table, answers questions for vendors and customers, regarding bathrooms, vendors, ATM Location
  • Resolve disputes that arise and prepare and submit an incident report to GM
  • Unresolved disputes are referred to GM
  • Any emergency or problem at the Market will be called in to Market Security or HPD or EMS as needed. Submits a written incident report to GM whenever incidents occur.
  • Do final check of Market site to ensure it is clean once the market is closed and vendors have left for the day

OTHER FUNCTIONS: 

  • Periodic staff meetings as convened by the General Manager

WORKING CONDITIONS: 

  • FM presence performed outdoors in all types of weather; periodic office meetings

EQUIPMENT USED:

  • Car/truck needed for FM tables, tents etc.
  • Cell phone
  • Occasional: Office equipment (email, word, excel, etc) 

PHYSICAL, MENTAL, AND COMMUNICATION DEMANDS: 

  • FM presence may require minimal lifting of less than 50 pounds;
  • Requires oral and written communications with GM, customers, vendors and others, to include participation in group presentations
  • Must understand and be able to communicate and implement the Farmers' Market Handbook/policies and resolve basic complaints

QUALIFICATIONS: 

  • Ability to think creatively
  • People person with skills in diplomacy
  • Dispute resolutions skills
  • Good written and oral presentation skills
  • Self-motivated
  • Passionate about local agriculture and community

OTHER QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Car, Hawaii’s Driver’s License and proof of no-fault insurance
  • Cell phone
