Regular, Part-Time (25% FTE), RCUH Non-Civil Service position with the Thompson School of Social Work & Public Health, located in Honolulu, Hawaiʻi. Remote work may be permissible with the appropriate approvals. Continuation of employment is dependent upon program/operational needs, satisfactory work performance, availability of funds, and compliance with applicable Federal/State laws.
MONTHLY SALARY RANGE: $2,964 - $3,000/Mon (25% FTE).
DUTIES: Supervises key data harmonization, analyses, and presentation tasks to fulfill contract obligations to Hawaiʻi Hospital Education and Research Foundation (HHERF) in service of the Maternal Health Innovation and Perinatal Quality Collaborative projects; Hawai‘i State-wide efforts to improve pregnancy outcomes and reduce severe maternal morbidity and mortality disparities across the State. Devises an analytic strategy to refine detection and estimation of severe maternal morbidity from existing medical records and other sources of surveillance data. Develops algorithms incorporating machine learning as necessary to improve the classification and prediction of severe maternal morbidity and disparities and determinants thereof based on routinely collected Electronic Health Record (EHR) and Hospital Discharge data. Provides expert technical assistance on developing and implementing a data access framework around several maternal morbidity and other key maternal health outcomes. Advises on State-wide landscaping of public and private (hospital) data and data system. Co-develops and proposes a mechanism by which to obtain and share access to data needed for the two (2) strategies above while ensuring ethical and legal privacy requirements are met.
PRIMARY QUALIFICATIONS:
EDUCATION
PhD from an accredited college or university in Epidemiology, Biostatistics, or Statistics or related field.
EXPERIENCE
Three to five (3-5) years of experience in quantitative epidemiology and biostatistics including substantial work with machine learning models for outcome classification.
KNOWLEDGE
Expert knowledge of reproductive and perinatal outcome disparities, including geospatial, social, structural, and behavioral determinants. Demonstrated knowledge and use of database systems for maternal morbidity and mortality disparities including health care electronic medical record systems through peer-reviewed publications.
ABILITIES & SKILLS
Proficient in at least one (1) statistical programming language such as R. Post Offer/Employment Condition: Must be able to complete the UH Title IX training within 30 days from date of hire, and re-certify annually. Must be able to complete the UH Information Security Awareness Training (ISAT) within two (2) weeks from date of hire, and re-certify every twelve (12) months.

SECONDARY QUALIFICATIONS:
Knowledge and experience in quantitative causal inference principles, their applications, and data limitations. Knowledge and experience in machine learning for clinical prediction and/or causal inference. Knowledge and passion for improving data access and usage, particularly by community members or organizations who disproportionately experience poorer health outcomes. Experience preparing data visualizations and reports for non-specialist audiences. Experience communicating and engaging non-experts on data and data concepts.
