Regular, Full-Time, RCUH Non-Civil Service position with the Pacific Cooperative Studies Unit (PCSU), Kauai Invasive Species Committee (KISC), located in Kapaau, Kauai. Continuation of employment is dependent upon program/operational needs, satisfactory work performance, availability of funds, and compliance with applicable Federal/State laws. 

MONTHLY SALARY:  $4,071/Mon. 

DUTIES:  Provides comprehensive training on Coconut Rhinoceros Beetle (CRB) management and technical assistance to partner agencies, private industry stakeholders, and community stakeholders. Conducts field surveys for CRB and assists in identifying specimens collected as a result of surveys, as well as from samples submitted by the public and other agencies. Collects data on efficiency and post treatment monitoring of operational plans. Participates in CRB data collection efforts and enters data into appropriate databases. Drives to and from field sites and events. Assists in other activities related to the CRB strategy for Kauai, this includes assisting with applied research and extension activities of the Kauai Invasive Species Committee. Assists with implementing eradication and mitigation plans. Expected outcomes of the program include enhanced awareness of CRB issues and development of educational resources to control and manage the invasive pest species for people, industry and natural resource managers. 

PRIMARY QUALIFICATIONS: 

EDUCATION

Associate`s Degree from an accredited community college in natural sciences or communication-related field.

EXPERIENCE

One to two (1-2) years of experience in natural resources, agriculture, nursery and landscaping, insectpest control, or sciencecommunication related field.

KNOWLEDGE

Goodknowledge of extension and outreach methodologies, invasive species and conservation issues.Basic understanding of agriculture, nursery and landscaping, or insectpest control industry practices.

ABILITIES & SKILLS

Must have good oral and writtencommunication skills, some computer skillsin word processing, spread-sheeting and basicoffice software. Must possessa valid driver`s license (and if use of personal vehicle on thejob is required, must also have valid personal driver`s insurance equivalent to Hawai‘i`s No-Fault Driver`s Insurance) and maintain throughout the duration of employment. Post Offer/Employment Condition: Must possess American Red Cross Certificationin First Aid/CPR (or be ableto obtain the certificate following the training providedwithin three (3) months from date of hire and maintain throughout duration of employment). Must complete the online Hazard Communication training immediately after hire or no later than employee`s initial exposure to hazardous chemicals. If selected for helicopter transport, must be able to complete basic helicopter safety course (A100) within twelve (12) months from date of hire and maintain throughout duration of employment.

PHYSICAL/MEDICAL DEMANDS

Must beable to conduct field work in remote locations under adverseconditions as needed.

SECONDARY QUALIFICATIONS:   

Understanding of invasive Coconut Rhinoceros Beetle issuesand control strategies in Hawai‘i. Understanding  of integrated pest management concepts.
