Description:

We are looking for an accounting assistant to join our team! We are growing & thriving in all areas of our business & are looking to add a capable team member who is ready to jump in. As a small firm, we “do it all.” We are looking for a driven, well-rounded individual, who is willing to learn & grow with the company. No public accounting experience is required, but must be a self-starter & is willing to tackle a wide variety of accounting & tax projects.

This is a full-time position (40 hrs/week) with benefits, starting December 2024. This may change based on need & circumstances at the time.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Tracking & recording transactions including cash, credit card, payroll & loan transactions
  • Assist in the monthly closing process for bookkeeping clients, which includes reconciling of cash, credit card accounts & payroll & preparation of any necessary monthly journal entries
  • Preparation, filing & payment of Hawaii GET, TAT & county TAT returns for clients on a monthly, quarterly, semi-annual & annual basis
  • Running payroll for clients, including calculation of bonuses & other salary-based compensation, scheduling of payroll tax payments & preparation, & filing of required payroll tax forms (monthly, quarterly & annually as required)
  • Update & maintain payroll records as well as retrieving data when necessary
  • Preparation, filing & payment of Temporary Disability Insurance (TDI) forms as well as Workman Compensation (WC) audits for clients
  • Schedule payments of 401(k) employee deferral & safe harbor retirement contributions on behalf of client`s employees, including preparation of annual employee census for client`s 401(k) plans & other pre-taxation savings plans
  • Assist in resolving accounting, payroll & GET issues as they arise for clients, including analyzing the issues, applicable rules & laws & evaluate possible solutions & alternatives
  • Assist as needed with administrative duties such as answering the phone, deliveries to/from the office, scanning & filing

Minimum Qualifications

  • Must work in office / no working remote to maintain client confidentiality
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Proficient in English
  • Strong attention to detail to prevent inaccuracies & ensure the integrity of all financial data
  • Ability to multitask & prioritize duties during intensive periods
  • Ability to interact with others in a productive yet courteous manner
  • Willingness to learn new knowledge/skills & to grow professionally
  • Proficient in MS Office (Word, Excel, & Outlook)

Desirable Qualifications

  • Associate's Degree in Accounting
  • Experience in working in an office setting
  • Familiar with QuickBooks & QuickBooks Online
  • 1+ years of experience in payroll and/or accounting for businesses of varying industries
  • A good understanding of payroll, & payroll tax requirements
  • A good understanding of 401(k) & other pre-taxation savings plans
  • A good understanding of Hawaii GET, TAT & county TAT laws & filing requirements
