Job Title: 
TRADES APPRENTICE I (BC-05)

As part of an established apprenticeship program, performs progressively difficult assignments pertinent to the trade involved (Automotive, Construction/Mechanical, Electrical, or Pipefitting); receives supplemental classroom instruction related to the work; and performs other related duties as required.  Upon successful completion of the full training program, graduates will be converted to initial probationary status in their skilled trade area. 

Depending on the trade (Automotive, Construction/Mechanical, Electrical, or Pipefitting), an apprentice works in a 3 to 5 year established apprenticeship program that provides the opportunity to learn a skilled trade and become a journey-level worker through on-the-job training and community college classes. Under agreement signed by the apprentice and the City and County of Honolulu, the City agrees to provide on-the-job training and the apprentice agrees to work and attend classes to learn the trade.  
 
On the job, the apprentice receives orientation on basic work operations and work rules; receives training in the work processes of the trade; accompanies journey-level workers and supervisors on the job; and performs progressively more difficult, responsible, and skilled assignments. 
 

APPLICATION PROCESS

  2.  Written Test Self-Scheduling Period:  October 8 - October 11, 2024

    Applicants must sign up to take a civil service written test as part of the Trades Apprentice I application evaluation process. During the written test self-scheduling period noted above, applicants must log into their GovernmentJobs account to register for a written test session.

  3.  Written Test Date: SATURDAY, NOVEMBER 23, 2024
     

Minimum Qualification Requirements

At time of application, you must be a citizen, national or permanent resident alien of the United States or a non-citizen eligible under federal law for unrestricted employment. 

  • EDUCATION REQUIREMENT:   None
  • LICENSE REQUIREMENT:  Possession of an appropriate valid Hawaii State driver's license, as required. Some positions require CDL B, prior to completion of the Trades Apprentice Program.
