Regular, Full-Time, RCUH Non-Civil Service position with the Maui High Performance Computing Center (MHPCC), Department of Defense High Performance Computing Modernization Program`s “Maui High Performance Computing Center,” located at the Maui Research and Technology Park (MRTP) in Maui, Hawai‘i. This position will conduct research under the University of Hawai‘i Maui Support for Technical and Research Services (MSTARS) contract.  Continuation of employment is dependent upon program/operational needs, satisfactory work performance, availability of funds, and compliance with applicable Federal/State laws. 

MONTHLY SALARY RANGE:  $7,500 - $10,000/Mon. 

DUTIES:  Plans, oversees, and coordinates, through subordinate supervisors, the custodial, building maintenance, grounds maintenance, equipment operation, and related laboring activities for the MHPCC. Maintains effective working relationships with co-workers and community organizations. Ensures that the infrastructure is maintained and mission-critical high-performance computing (HPC) operations, including oversight of power, cooling, fire suppression, and physical security systems. Coordinates closely with the Operations Manager, Systems Lead, Networking Lead, Cybersecurity, and HPC Operators Lead to ensure physical infrastructure aligns with national defense standards and supports ongoing Department of Defense (DoD) and research initiatives. Manages vendors and service contracts for specialized data center systems and ensures all work is performed in compliance with security protocols and federal regulations. Provides strategic input on facility improvements to support future computational workloads and infrastructure scalability. Well-organized and able to optimize the use of space and technical assets while minimizing operating risks and costs. The goal is to ensure MHPCC facilities are resilient, secure, and mission-ready to support defense-related research and advanced computing efforts under optimal conditions. 

PRIMARY QUALIFICATIONS: 

EDUCATION

Bachelor`s Degree from an accredited four (4) year college or university in Engineering, Information Technology, Computer Science, Facilities Management, or a related field. (Associate`s Degree and four to six (4-6) years of experience directly related to duties and responsibilities may substitute for an Bachelor`s Degree.).

EXPERIENCE

Five to seven (5-7) years of progressively responsible experience in facility operations or data center infrastructure management, preferably in a mission-critical, research, or defense environment.

KNOWLEDGE

Knowledge of mechanical, electrical, and environmental systems in secure or HPC environments. Familiar with DoD facility and cybersecurity regulations, DFARS, and MILCON standards. Understanding of backup power systems, environmental controls, OSHA, and federal safety standards.

ABILITIES & SKILLS

Must be a U.S. citizen and eligible for DoD clearance. Strong technical leadership skills. Ability to manage projects, vendors, and contracts. Proficient in facility operations software, network diagramming, and Microsoft Office Suite. Excellent organizational and communication skills. Post Offer/Employment Condition: Must be able to obtain and maintain a security clearance based on a tier-3 background investigation to access classified information. Must complete the online Hazard Communication training immediately after hire or no later than employee`s initial exposure to hazardous chemicals. Must be able to complete the Office of Research Compliance (ORC) General Biosafety training within six (6) months from date of hire. Must be able to complete the UH Information Security Awareness Training (ISAT) within two (2) weeks from date of hire, and re-certify every twelve (12) months. 

PHYSICAL/MEDICAL DEMANDS

Medium physical effort requiring full range of motion. Requires handling, including the lifting and carrying of objects and equipment weighing up to fifty (50) pounds unassisted. Must be able to climb ladders, and stairs. Must be able to work in three to four (3-4) foot crawl spaces as well as in confined, poorly ventilated work areas.

POLICY/REGULATORY REQUIREMENT

As a condition of employment, employee will be subject to all applicable RCUH policies, procedures, and trainings and, as applicable, subject to University of Hawai‘i's and/or business entity's policies, procedures, and trainings.   Violation of RCUH's, UH's, or business entity's policies and/or procedures or applicable State or Federal laws and/or regulations may lead to disciplinary action (including, but not limited to possible termination of employment, personal fines, civil and/or criminal penalties, etc.). 

SECONDARY QUALIFICATIONS:   

Certified Facility Manager (CFM), Certified Data Center Professional (CDCP), or PMP certification. Experience working with RCUH, federal agencies, DoD systems, or in classified data center environments. Knowledge of ServiceNow or equivalent CMDB systems. PE (Professional Engineer) license or proven experience overseeing licensed A/E contractors.
