Environmental Technician I (Full-Time Salaried)

Entry to Mid-level position, salary based on applicant qualifications and experience.

Overview:

The Environmental Technician I will perform various project support and field activities such as collection of soil, groundwater, petroleum product, ambient air, soil vapor, and other media samples. Duties also include execution of field inspections, due diligence surveys, oversight of remedial and construction excavations, soil and groundwater sampling, free product recovery, underground storage tank investigations, and remedial system oversight. The Environmental Technician will also provide subcontractor oversight in the field, have the skill and ability to use and maintain field equipment (e.g., PID, LEL, XRF, oil/water interface probe, water meter), and follow proper handling of hazardous materials.

At ESI, scientists, project managers, engineers and technicians all work together as a team in a wide range of environmental projects. The Environmental Technician will be taught the theory, application, operation, and maintenance of field testing equipment (e.g. PID, LEL, XRF, oil/water interface probe, water meter, pumps, generators, compressors). They are also trained in the proper use of field equipment in accordance with equipment specifications and sampling techniques, how to maintain field equipment in proper operating condition (i.e., decontaminate, calibrate, charge, safe storage), and operating within safety protocols.

Minimum Qualifications:

- A successful candidate must demonstrate a strong and personal commitment to safety. Be able to understand oral and written directions and have the ability to execute independently.

- Able to deliver effective oral and written communication skills when interacting with project managers, clients, subcontractors, vendors, and co-workers.

- Good decision-making, problem-solving, and time management skills.

- Must have a valid driver`s license and personal vehicle. Able to lift, push, pull, and carry at least 50 pounds, work remotely, operate rental equipment or vehicles, and travel off-island (sometimes overnight) as needed.

- Able to work in outdoor conditions in variable weather conditions, in rough terrain, and working with hazardous substances in confined spaces or in remote areas.

Desired experience but not required:

- AA or equivalent certification or training in an area of geology, chemistry, oceanography, environmental science, engineering, or a closely aligned field of study. A science or engineering background is not required.

- Previous experience working on construction sites, work with industrial equipment. 

- Existing OSHA or HAZMAT certifications or ability to be certified. 

- Familiar with MS Office Applications (Word, Excel, Outlook).

- Knowledge of basic scientific and technical principles.
