Position: Medical Assistant

Location: Honolulu, HI

Pay: $24 to $26.50/hour (depending on experience)

Experience: At least 1 year of MA experience preferred (candidates with approximately 9 months of strong MA experience may also be considered); strong scheduling experience highly preferred; GI/gastroenterology scheduling experience a plus

Education: MA certification preferred but not required for candidates with sufficient hands-on experience

Type: Full-time; Contract

Schedule: Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday, 8:30am to 5:00pm and Wednesday, 8:30am to 12:00pm

Kahu Malama Nurses is seeking a Medical Assistant to join our 'ohana supporting a private gastroenterology practice in Honolulu!

This position is primarily front-office focused, with responsibilities including scheduling, patient intake, phone communication, EMR documentation, medication reconciliation, and assisting with patient preparation for procedures.

Job Description

1. Schedule patient appointments, particularly GI-related appointments and procedures
2. Handle incoming phone calls and patient inquiries
3. Perform patient intake
4. Update and verify medication lists and complete medication reconciliation
5. Take patient vital signs
6. Document patient information in the EMR
7. Educate patients on colonoscopy preparation and how to prepare for procedures
8. Provide general front-office and clinical support as needed

Position Requirements

1. Hard skills: Proficiency with EMR documentation; strong scheduling skills, particularly for GI-related appointments; medication reconciliation experience; comfortable taking patient vital signs and performing patient intake; 2-step TB test required (TB Quantiferon preferred); background check required; BLS preferred but not required
2. Soft skills: Organized, detail-oriented, and reliable; confident when scheduling patients; comfortable working with patients and handling phones; resourceful and able to think on their feet
