Job Description

The Scheduling Coordinator works collaboratively with the Admissions Coordinator, Dental Care Manager, Dentists and Patient Guardians to ensure that infant, toddler, preschool, school age, young adult (up to age 21) patients are screened and meet the requirements of the hospital prior to receiving surgical or dental services. Obtains necessary medical information at time of admission in order to enhance strategic placement on the surgical schedule and ensures patients are appropriately scheduled for dental preadmission testing (PAT) and outpatient surgery (OPS) visits. Communicates and coordinates with departments, primary care physicians and outside sources to obtain necessary surgical resources and prepare patients for their appointments. Provides education regarding dental process. Coordinates related services preoperatively to ensure a smooth perioperative transition for pediatric patients. Performs clerical duties and generating statistics relevant to the department.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Schedules or re-schedules clinic appointments in SHCIS accurately and timely.
  • Insures outpatients scheduled for visits are registered in SHCIS and that labels, itinerary, and ID sheet are placed in front of chart.
  • Sends written notifications of regularly scheduled appointments to patients and their families.
  • Gives verbal notification of add-ons and unscheduled appointments to nursing staff upon patient's arrival to clinic.
  • Orients all new patients and families to OPD and explain HIPAA/clinic forms prior to completion of initial appointment.
Required Qualifications:
  • High School Diploma/GED General Studies.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Medical terminology course or Medical Assistant training.
  • Minimum two (2) years experience in an acute care facility, outpatient surgery center, or surgery center, or surgeon's office.
  • Pediatric and/or orthopedic experience.


The pay range for this position is $22.77 - $34.15/hour

Compensation is determined based on years of relevant experience and departmental equity.
