US Department of Defense - - Responsibilities: Support the overhaul and repair of U.S. Naval vessels through surface preparation and application of high performance preservation coating.; Use drawings, specifications, technical manuals, engineering standards, and manufacturers' instructions to identify the location and assemble blast equipment in dry-docks, piers and on vessels.; Ascertain type and method for surface preparation, considering variables such as current surface profile; surface profile requirements; intended coating application; cleanliness; tolerances; and metal loss.; Use hand or mechanical means to prepare surfaces including scaling, sanding, scraping, chemical removal, and washing of metal, wood, and plastic surfaces.; Use deck blast machines to remove coatings and oxide from decks of ships.
