Position Overview

The Grants Accounting Specialist is responsible for managing the financial lifecycle of both government and private grants. This includes billing, revenue recognition, reconciliations, and financial reporting, while ensuring compliance with funding requirements and organizational standards.

Working closely with the Chief Financial Officer and Finance team, this role plays a key part in maintaining financial accuracy, supporting program operations, and strengthening internal controls.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage accounting activities for government and non-government grants, ensuring accuracy and compliance
  • Prepare and submit timely monthly billings for government-funded programs
  • Perform account reconciliations, including contracts receivable and deferred revenue
  • Prepare journal entries and support the month-end close process
  • Develop and deliver monthly, quarterly, and final financial reports for funders and internal stakeholders
  • Partner with program leaders and Club Directors to provide clear financial insights and reporting
  • Maintain organized, audit-ready grant files and supporting documentation
  • Assist with preparation of financial materials for Finance and Investment Committee meetings

Qualifications

  • Associate's Degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business required; Bachelor's Degree preferred
  • Minimum of 2 years of accounting or bookkeeping experience; nonprofit or grant accounting experience preferred
  • Strong understanding of general ledger processes, reconciliations, and financial reporting
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and accounting systems (MIP experience preferred)
  • Strong analytical skills with a high level of accuracy and attention to detail
  • Effective communication skills and ability to collaborate across departments

Work Environment & Flexibility

This position is based onsite at our Administration Office in Honolulu to support collaboration and onboarding. Upon successful completion of training and demonstrated proficiency, a hybrid work schedule may be offered, providing flexibility while maintaining operational effectiveness.
