Role Summary
Treaty Oak is seeking an Associate, Project Finance, who will be a key team member involved in supporting all aspects of the project finance function. Responsibilities will span work streams relating to sourcing, structuring, negotiating, executing, and closing construction and term debt financings and tax credit monetization for Treaty Oak's late-stage and in-construction projects.
In this role, you will manage complex financial models and their inputs, support due diligence with consultants and financiers, and collaborate with internal and external stakeholders (e.g. counsel, lenders, investors, advisors, and consultants) across a wide range of project financing work streams to facilitate exemplary execution and closing processes.
For this high growth opportunity, Treaty Oak is seeking a motivated individual with an understanding of core project finance concepts, demonstrable best-practice financial modeling, and experience with relevant debt and/or tax credit financing structures and their associated workflows.
The position will report to a Director, Project Finance, as part of a 4-person project finance team comprising 2 Directors, a Senior Associate, and this Associate position. The project finance team forms part of Treaty Oak's overall 10-person Investments team, which also comprises professionals focused on project M&A and internal investment decisions with Macquarie.
This role is based at Treaty Oak's headquarters in Austin, TX, with a hybrid schedule in office Monday through Thursday and remote on Fridays. Candidates must either be local or willing to relocate within two months. During the relocation period, bi-weekly travel to Austin will be required.
Key Responsibilities
• Prepare and maintain fully structured project-level financial models, analyse both financing / investment parameters and sponsor performance, and synthesize data to concisely communicate summaries to more senior colleagues
• Run company-wide financial model input intake processes, collaborating with all relevant internal SMEs to efficiently collect, refine, and update model inputs at each stage of project development and financing
• Develop advanced knowledge of material project documents for live transactions (e.g. PPAs, EPC agreements, GIAs, equipment supply agreements, and O&M contracts) to be able to ensure accurate and substantiated conversion of relevant data into financial model inputs
• Engage, prepare files for, and procure and review deliverables from, financing due diligence consultants (e.g., independent engineering, transmission, market, insurance, probable maximum loss, cost segregation and appraisal, and property and sales tax projections)
• Support ad hoc deliverables relating to financier marketing, selection, negotiation, due diligence, documentation, and closing processes for debt financing and tax credit monetization transactions, as well as coordinating with all internal SMEs, external consultants, lawyers, and financing partners
• Prepare marketing materials (e.g. teasers and CIMs) for third party financiers / investors
• Communicate and build relationships effectively with both internal teams and external stakeholders
Education and Qualifications
• 3+ years of renewable energy project finance experience, preferably utility scale
• BS / MS in Finance, Economics, or another similarly quantitative course of study
• Exceptional Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint skills, with knowledge of best practice project finance modelling (e.g. layout, model logic, formatting, formulae, and typical VBA code / macros)
• Knowledge of renewable energy (solar and/or storage) project economic metrics and value drivers
• Experience procuring and reviewing financing consultant due diligence reports
• Awareness of construction-to-term debt and tax credit bridge loan financing, as well as current tax credit monetization structures and their related workflows
• Experience creating marketing materials and managing external-facing data rooms
• Outstanding critical thinking skills, inquisitiveness, work product, and proactivity / resourcefulness
• Comfort working in a demanding, deal-oriented team with recurring deadlines
• Ability to dynamically prioritize various tasks and meet deadlines in an and ever-changing environment
