Overview
GovCIO is excited to announce an opportunity for a High Performance Computing (HPC) Engineer to support our proposal efforts with HHS. This position is remote and offers a chance to work on cutting-edge scientific research and data analytics.
The HPC Engineer will play a critical role in optimizing HPC environments to accelerate scientific discovery and innovation. You will work closely with researchers, data scientists, and system administrators to ensure that our HPC resources are effectively configured to maximize research outcomes. Your focus will be on enhancing performance, scalability, and efficiency across compute workloads, while assisting teams in adapting their applications and workflows to leverage advanced HPC architectures, including clusters and GPUs.
Responsibilities
- Collaborate with researchers and data scientists to optimize applications and workflows in HPC environments.
- Analyze computational workloads and provide strategies for parallelization, job scheduling, and resource allocation to maximize efficiency.
- Tune and support HPC cluster environments including compute nodes, GPUs, and high-speed storage systems.
- Assist with porting, compiling, and optimizing scientific codes using programming models like MPI, OpenMP, and CUDA.
- Monitor system utilization and performance metrics to identify optimization opportunities.
- Work with system administrators to enhance cluster architecture, scheduling policies, and storage solutions.
- Offer technical support and consulting for research teams utilizing HPC resources.
- Create documentation, best practices, and training materials to help users effectively navigate HPC capabilities.
- Optimize data-intensive research workflows that combine HPC compute resources with large-scale analytics platforms.
- Drive the continuous improvement of the HPC environment through testing, benchmarking, and embracing emerging technologies.
Qualifications
A Bachelor's degree or higher in a relevant technical field, along with extensive experience (15+ years) in HPC environments or research computing.
Required Skills and Experience
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Information Science, or a related field.
- Experience with HPC environments, cluster computing, or large-scale research platforms.
- Familiarity with scientific computing applications, modeling, simulation, or data-intensive workloads.
- Knowledge of GPU computing, containerization technologies like Docker and Singularity, and modern HPC architecture.
- Strong analytical skills for performance tuning and computational optimization.
- Effective communication skills for conveying technical concepts to interdisciplinary teams.
- Prior experience in collaborative research environments is a plus.
