Mortgage Operations Manager/Underwriter

Our client has an immediate opening for a Mortgage Process Manager with experience in mortgage underwriting as well. This position will manage the day-to-day operations of the residential mortgage loan process from application through funding and closing, including underwriting. This role ensures loans are processed efficiently, compliantly, and on time while maintaining high service levels for borrowers, referral partners, and internal teams for this growing and dynamic company located in Honolulu, Hawai'i. Position is hybrid, Relocation will be considered.

Key Responsibilities Highlights:

  • Manage and supervise processing, underwriting, closing, and post-closing functions
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, investor, and agency guidelines (FNMA, FHLMC, FHA, VA, etc.)
  • Develop, implement, and enforce operational policies, procedures, and workflows
  • Monitor pipeline metrics, turn times, and quality control to meet performance goals
  • Serve as a point of escalation for complex loans, underwriting issues, and operational challenges
  • Coordinate with sales, secondary marketing, and compliance teams to ensure smooth loan delivery
  • Prepare for and manage audits, investor reviews, and regulatory exams
  • Identify process inefficiencies and implement improvements to increase scalability and profitability
  • Ensure accurate and timely funding, shipping, and purchase of loans

Qualification Highlights:

  • 3+ years of residential mortgage operations experience with leadership responsibility
  • BA, Business or Finance concentration preferred
  • Registration as a Mortgage Loan Originator (MLO) through the Nationwide Mortgage Licensing System & Registry (NMLS) is required
  • Strong working knowledge of loan processing, underwriting, closing, and secondary delivery
  • In-depth understanding of agency and investor guidelines
  • Proven ability to manage teams, deadlines, and high-volume pipelines
  • Excellent problem-solving, communication, and organizational skills, ability to work under pressure with multiple deadlines
  • Experience with LOS systems and operational reporting tools
  • Detail-oriented with a strong focus on compliance and risk management
