Summary

As an Expert Pipefitter Leader working for the Department of the Navy, you will take charge of various work sites, ensuring that pipefitting tasks are completed efficiently and to the highest standards. Your expertise will be essential in mentoring and leading a team of pipefitters.

This position is based in the Pipe Shop (Shop 56).

Important: Applicants will only be considered for positions within their own UIC.

Duties

  • Lead a team as an Expert Pipefitter, ensuring work assignments are effectively managed.
  • Install, modify, fabricate, and repair a variety of shipboard piping and equipment, including high and low-pressure air, water, and steam systems.
  • Mentor, train, and provide instruction to Pipe Shop employees on diverse pipefitting responsibilities.
  • Inspect completed and ongoing work for quality, compliance with specifications, and adherence to schedules.
  • Conduct maintenance, repairs, troubleshooting, installation, modification, and testing both in the shop and onboard ships.
  • Research advancements in trade processes and inform personnel about new technologies, procedures, and tooling enhancements.

Requirements

  • Must be a US Citizen.
  • Must be suitable for federal employment and participate in direct deposit pay program.
  • Must successfully pass the E-Verify employment verification check.
  • Males born after 12-31-59 must be registered for Selective Service.
  • This is a bargaining unit position.
  • Pre-appointment physical examination may be required.
  • Must obtain and maintain a security clearance.
  • Personal protective equipment must be worn during shifts.
  • Work in environments with potential hazards, including physical and chemical agents.
  • Ability to travel for work assignments is necessary.
  • Capability to lift and carry items weighing 50 pounds.
  • Ability to climb vertical ladders and work in confined spaces.
  • Willingness to work rotating shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
  • Participation in drug testing programs may be required.
  • Exposure to high noise levels may occur.
