JOB SUMMARY:
The Director of Material and Trim Development will spearhead the end-to-end development and commercialization of core fabrics, trims, and embellishment-ready components for Momentec's product lines. This role is integral to the business, acting as a strategic connector between Product Design, Technical Development, and Sourcing. A deep understanding of market trends, customer needs, and manufacturing processes is essential for creating innovative, high-performance materials that meet specific commercial goals.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES (includes other duties as required):
- Drive on-site development of high-performance, embellishment-ready materials and trims, ensuring they align with Momentec's product vision and market demands.
- Own and manage the seasonal and core fabric and trim development calendar in sync with overall product creation strategies and timelines.
- Conduct thorough evaluations of fabrics for compliance with industry standards, durability, and youth performance criteria, leveraging in-depth business knowledge to guide decisions.
- Collaborate closely with mills and trim suppliers, actively participating in on-site meetings and visits to drive innovation and secure partnership commitments.
- Attend relevant industry conferences and trade shows to stay ahead of market trends and advancements in material science, translating these insights into actionable strategies for Momentec.
- Support supplier negotiations in coordination with the Director of Sourcing, leveraging comprehensive market knowledge to achieve competitive pricing and lead times.
- Identify and implement effective supply chain strategies that enhance cost-efficiency, quality, and compliance with necessary regulations across North America.
- Facilitate early engagement of materials in the design process, minimizing late-stage development challenges and ensuring a seamless transition from concept to commercialization.
- Create and maintain a comprehensive Momentec material and trims library, integrating business insights into resource tools for fabric specifications and vendor documentation.
- Champion sustainability initiatives, focusing on traceable fibers, recycled content, and environmentally responsible sourcing approaches.
SKILLS/QUALIFICATIONS/EDUCATION/LICENSES & CERTIFICATIONS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. - Bachelor's degree in Textile Science, Materials Engineering, or a related field.
- 7+ years of hands-on experience in material and trim development, specifically within performance-driven or team sports apparel sectors.
- In-depth understanding of raw material manufacturing processes, supply chains, and market dynamics relevant to the apparel industry.
- Strong analytical, negotiation, and communication skills, with the ability to articulate complex information clearly across all levels of the organization.
- Demonstrated ability to thrive in dynamic, fast-paced environments, exhibiting strong leadership and project management capabilities.
- Willingness to travel frequently (30-50%) for supplier visits, vendor management, and onsite development initiatives.

WORK ENVIRONMENT: - Hybrid/In Office. Typically hybrid/remote schedule includes working from home on Mondays and Fridays and working in office at our Statesville and/or Kannapolis locations, Tuesdays through Thursdays each week.
WORK HOURS: - Exempt, full time: Monday-Friday, 8:30AM-5:30PM
