Adjunct Faculty

University of Maryland Global Campus (UMGC) seeks adjunct faculty to teach on-site at Pearl City, HI, for the Social & Behavioral Sciences & Gerontology program. Specifically, we are seeking faculty for the following course:

Anthropology of Language and Communication (ANTH 346)

An intermediate-level anthropological study of language, communication, and culture. The aim is to understand language in a cultural context; assess how the concepts, approaches, and methods of linguistic anthropology explain communication in changing cultural environments; and recognize how language both shapes and is shaped by culture. Topics include the origin of human language, linguistic diversity, structural elements of verbal and nonverbal language, language as social action, research in anthropological linguistics, language and power hierarchies, gendered communications, and linguistic diversity in the contemporary world.

Required Education and Experience

  • Master's degree in Anthropology, or a related field, from an accredited institution of higher learning is required.
  • Professional experience in behavioral sciences or related field
  • Experience teaching adult learners online and in higher education is strongly preferred
  • Seeking instructors to teach specifically on-site at Pearl City, HI.
