Summary:

The Housing Navigator provides specialized case management and crisis support services for residents staying at Hale Mauliola, one of IHS's homeless transition centers. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, development of a housing plan, facilitation of safe, decent and affordable housing options, behavioral health assessment and recovery plans, providing education and support for the resident and others in the resident's significant support network. Links residents to community resources to further independence and stability while working collaboratively with external resources/providers and with service teams accross IHS.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

  • Some knowledge of case management and community resources with understanding of how to assess barriers to housing goals.
  • Able to navigate Oahu/Honolulu housing market and work with property managers, explain fair housing laws, and landlord/tenant rights.
  • Possess personal qualities of integrity, patience and commitment to mission.
  • Flexible and able to multitask; can work within an ambiguous, fast-moving environment.
Education and Experience:
  • Bachelor's degree preferred
  • One year of direct case management or supportive services providing linkage to community resources
  • 1-2 years of experience working with homeless or other disenfranchised individuals with mental health and/or substance abuse issues
  • Valid Drivers License with clean traffic abstract
