Disney Publishing Worldwide is seeking a Bilingual Copy Editor and Proofreader to work on fiction and nonfiction titles in both English and Spanish on a project-by-project basis. The successful candidate will be detail-oriented, self-motivated, and will possess excellent follow-up skills.

The Bilingual Copy Editor and Proofreader will report to the Copy Chief.

This is a Recurring Part-Time role.

What You Will Do:

• Proofreads Spanish-language picture books for consistency, sense, and readability; reviews covers and interiors of Spanish-language books (including picture books and novels) for reprints
• Proofreads longer Spanish-language projects, including novels, as needed
• Copyedits short manuscripts (picture books, chapter books, and short stories) and longer manuscripts (middle grade and young adult novels) in English to ensure sense, continuity, quality of grammar, spelling, and style, and accuracy and consistency of text and art
• Performs proofreading in English at all book stages to check that changes and corrections have been executed as requested
• Creates and updates house style guides for authors and staff
• Please note that this position does not come with guaranteed hours; work is assigned on a project-by-project basis, as needed

Required Qualifications & Skills:

• Minimum 3 years' experience as a copy editor, preferably with some experience in children's and/or young adult books; experience proofreading Spanish-language materials for publication
• Bilingual, with strong Spanish-language and English-language skills
• Ability to manage multiple priorities, meet deadlines, and work independently
• College-level understanding of literature, grammar, style, and spelling
• Meticulous attention to detail
• Capable of working very tight deadlines, sometimes on short notice
• Ability to work with digital documents, using Word and Adobe software
• Familiarity with Chicago Manual of Style 18th edition and comfort working with a house style and individual series guidelines and nomenclature
• Availability on weekdays, during business hours

Education:

• Bachelors degree or equivalent work experience required

The pay rate for this remote role is $32.00 per hour. The base pay actually offered may vary depending on the candidate's geographic region, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience, among other factors.
