Description:

Maintenance Worker Military Kitchen

The Maintenance Worker performs skilled maintenance, repair, and preventative tasks in support of military kitchen operations and facility infrastructure. This includes work in carpentry, plumbing, electrical, painting, mechanical systems, and industrial kitchen equipment maintenance. The position requires regular attendance and the ability to work weekends, holidays, and emergency overtime as needed.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

General Maintenance:

  • Perform skilled maintenance work including painting, plumbing, carpentry, mechanical, and minor electrical repairs.
  • Complete daily preparatory tasks: gathering materials, setting up equipment, loading/unloading supplies.
  • Maintain clean and safe work areas by removing debris, cleaning spills, storing tools, and performing end-of-day clean-up.
  • Operate hand and power tools such as power washers, blowers, drills, sanders, and basic landscaping tools.

Facility Maintenance:

  • Inspect and repair lighting systems, fixtures, and switches.
  • Perform minor maintenance on air conditioning units and related HVAC components.
  • Assist in carpentry tasks including repairing cabinets, counters, shelves, doors, windows, flooring, gates, and ceiling structures.
  • Install and repair tile, carpet, and other surface materials.
  • Prepare interior/exterior surfaces for painting and apply paint, stain, and textures as needed.
  • Conduct routine plumbing maintenance: repair sinks, faucets, toilets, and clear clogged drains.
  • Strip, wax, and maintain flooring surfaces.

Military Kitchen Equipment Maintenance:

  • Perform inspections, troubleshooting, and minor repairs on industrial food service equipment including:
    • Commercial ovens
    • Hot boxes
    • Cold boxes
    • Dish machines
    • Food warmers and refrigeration units
  • Ensure all equipment is functioning safely and efficiently to meet military food-service standards.

Communication & Coordination:

  • Follow written and verbal instructions accurately.
  • Communicate effectively with military personnel, supervisors, co-workers, and contractors.
  • Report safety hazards, equipment malfunctions, and maintenance needs promptly.
  • Support team operations and perform additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications

Knowledge Of:

  • Basic building maintenance operations, tools, and terminology.
  • Safe work practices and proper operation of hand and power tools.
  • Mechanical and electrical fundamentals relevant to facility and kitchen equipment maintenance.

Ability To:

  • Learn and operate tools and equipment safely and competently.
  • Interpret and follow written, verbal, and diagram-based instructions.
  • Work independently and collaboratively with diverse teams.
  • Establish effective working relationships with staff and military personnel.

Experience & Training:

  • Experience: Minimum 1 year of experience in building, mechanical, or equipment maintenance, preferably in a commercial or industrial kitchen environment.
  • Education: High school diploma or GED required.
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to stand, sit, and walk for extended periods.
  • Ability to climb ladders, stairs, and scaffolding.
  • Ability to bend, kneel, crawl, squat, reach, and balance as needed.
  • Ability to lift, push, pull, or carry up to 50 lbs without mechanical assistance.
Work Environment

Work is performed in a military kitchen and facility setting, which may include exposure to noise, heat, cleaning chemicals, and equipment operating environments.
