Library Technician

Punahou's Junior School (K-8) Summer Programs are actively recruiting Library Technicians for the 2025 session. As part of the educational team, the Circulation Technician will provide a range of technical circulation support as well as administrative support to assist students, faculty and others to promote, extend, and make effective use of Learning Commons' resources, collections and programs. The technician will support operations related to processing of print and no-print materials, supplies and related equipment. Primary duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Check-out print and non-print library materials (K-8) to students and faculty; check-in materials on return. Assist students and faculty with book choices, research materials, generate and maintain book request lists, and be proactive with students to understand their needs.
  • Work collaboratively to assist in creating a warm, stimulating, and safe environment.
  • Maintain and display serial book titles, shelve books and maintain collection in shelf list order, process magazines, maintain records and log records of books in storage.
  • Maintain accurate registration and transaction files and review files to identify overdue materials. Prepare overdue notices and assess and collect cash payments for overdue, damaged and lost materials. Follow-up on overdue notices to recover unreturned library materials. Contact parents and faculty as needed.
  • Respond to parent inquiries regarding billing procedures, overdue books, book suggestions, and general library information.
  • Monitor student activities in the library, supervise volunteers, maintain hourly logs, and issue final reports.
  • Assist students with library catalog, online database, web searching, and public library catalogs.

Position Details:

  • Work Year: 1.5 Months
  • School Year: Summer School 2026, June - July
  • Work Hours: Monday - Friday, 7:30 AM - 4:00 PM, Schedule may vary based on operational needs
  • Minimum Qualifications:

    • High School Diploma.
    • Two (2) years working with students, faculty and/or library staff in a fast-paced team environment.
    • Library circulation experience preferred.
    • Excellent customer service and communication skills.
    • Experience working with students from diverse backgrounds; an understanding of the developmental needs of young children, sensitivity to each individual student's needs; and ability to appreciate the variety of perspectives offered by individual viewpoints, disciplines and cultural understandings.
