As an Individual Contributor, this role supports the generation of residential mortgage loan volume by originating a range of products and other Bank-approved loan programs. This role contributes to delivering excellent customer experience by analyzing borrower needs, providing guidance on mortgage solutions, and facilitating smooth loan processing. The role represents Bank of Hawaii in the community and strengthens relationships with borrowers, real estate professionals, and referral partners.

Responsibilities

  • Customer Qualification & Guidance: Assists customers in understanding available residential mortgage programs and determines preliminary qualification based on their financial information. Supports customers through the application process by explaining requirements, next steps, and applicable Bank of Hawaii products. Ensures customers receive accurate and timely information aligned with regulatory standards.
  • Loan Analysis & Documentation: Reviews applicant income, credit, debt, and related financial documents to contribute to determining eligibility and appropriate loan program options. Assembles required documentation in alignment with investor and Bank standards. Coordinates closely with processing and underwriting partners to support timely loan decisions.
  • Regulatory & Policy Adherence: Maintains a basic understanding of applicable federal, state, and investor regulations and uses this knowledge to ensure required disclosures and documentation are delivered accurately. Supports compliance with internal policies and procedures throughout the loan process. Ensures proper documentation and communication are maintained in customer files.
  • Business Development Support: Contributes to business development efforts by maintaining relationships with real estate professionals and community partners to support loan volume generation. Participates in open houses, real estate events, and customer inquiries to expand visibility of Bank of Hawaii mortgage products. Demonstrates professionalism and reinforces Bank of Hawaii's brand in community interactions.
  • Pipeline Management: Inputs and maintains customer information within loan systems to track application progress. Monitors loan files and communicates updates to customers and partners to support timely closings. Coordinates with internal teams to resolve documentation or processing issues.
  • Performs other responsibilities and duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • A credit report mandated by the Dodd-Frank Act to ensure demonstrated financial responsibility. The report is to be obtained and accepted no later than 30 days from employment or transfer date. If not accepted, employment may be terminated.
  • Registration with the Nationwide Mortgage Licensing System & Registry. If not yet registered, registration to be completed and accepted no later than 30 days from employment or transfer date. If not registered and accepted, employment may be terminated.
  • Minimum 2 years of mortgage banking experience with familiarity of loan processes and regulatory requirements. Experience with deposit products, consumer banking sales, and customer service is preferred.
  • High-school diploma or G.E.D.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office applications.
  • Intermediate knowledge and skill proficiency in customer experience.
  • Basic knowledge and skill proficiency in analytical thinking, business acumen, business development, consultative solutions, goal setting, laws and regulations, mortgage lending, product and service knowledge, relationship management, and risk analysis.
  • Additional knowledge, skills, abilities, and behaviors required include strong verbal and written communication skills, the ability to analyze financial information, attention to detail, and strong organizational abilities. The role requires the ability to manage multiple priorities, provide excellent customer service, and maintain confidentiality.
