We are developing sophisticated autonomous systems that manage and break down complex goals independently. We are in search of an experienced professional in agent design, planning, and control to craft and assess agents capable of setting, adapting, and executing goals in dynamic, real-world contexts. You will play a crucial role in establishing the scientific and engineering principles that ensure AI agents are reliable, interpretable, and robust for long-term tasks.

Key Responsibilities

• Design architectures for goal setting and decomposition mechanisms for autonomous agents in uncertain or open-ended environments.

• Create and implement dynamic planning systems, including hierarchical planning, curriculum learning, and self-refinement loops.

• Collaborate on designs for memory, tool use, and feedback loops that enable multi-step, self-directed agent behaviors.

• Develop evaluation frameworks to ensure alignment with human intent and track progress against long-term goals.

• Prototype agents that interact with APIs, MCP servers, search engines, databases, or real-world actuators to pursue goals efficiently and safely.

• Investigate methods to detect and address goal misalignment, looping behavior, or unwanted emergent strategies.

• Collaborate across teams to integrate goal alignment with safety, operational reliability, and alignment mechanisms.

Technical Skills

• Strong proficiency in SQL, Python, and data analysis/data mining tools.

• Experience with machine learning frameworks like Pytorch, Jax, LangChain, LangGraph, or AutoGen.

• Experience developing high-performance, large-scale ML systems.

• Familiarity with language modeling using transformers.

• Practical knowledge of symbolic planning, causal reasoning, and model-based reinforcement learning.

• Experience with large-scale ETL processes.

Required Qualifications

• Master's Degree with 4+ years of experience in research, ML engineering, or as an applied research scientist, ideally focused on developing production-ready AI solutions.

• At least 2 years of experience leading the development of AI/ML systems.

Preferred Qualifications

• Ph.D. in Computer Science, Data Science, Machine Learning, or a related field.

• Demonstrated experience deploying autonomous or semi-autonomous agents in production or simulation contexts.

• Experience with large language model-based agents equipped with scratchpad/self-reflection or hierarchical task decomposition.

• Understanding of autonomy risk mitigation strategies, including off-switch protocols or bounded rationality.

Work from Home Guidance

To enable effective remote work, associates must have a self-provided internet service that meets the following:

Pay Range

The compensation range provided reflects an estimate of starting base pay for full-time employment. This may vary based on location and individual qualifications.

$142,300 - $195,700 per year

This position is eligible for a bonus incentive plan based on performance.
