JOB DEFINITION

As an Irrigation Specialist, you will be instrumental in ensuring effective irrigation systems and landscape maintenance through the application of technical skills and safety practices.

ESSENTIAL JOB RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES

General:

  • Perform all necessary responsibilities required of an irrigation technician as listed below.

Employees:

  • Assist in executing various irrigation functions efficiently.

Equipment:

  • Help with routine checks and oil changes in essential equipment.
  • Manage truck/trailer setup and ensure supplies are ready for landscape projects.
  • Ensure all equipment is equipped with operational safety devices.
  • Maintain equipment to be in excellent operating condition.
  • Operate light/heavy equipment safely in compliance with regulations.
  • Report any issues with job sites or equipment immediately.

Safety:

  • Utilize and maintain appropriate task-specific PPE at all times.
  • Adhere to company policies & procedures, including safety guidelines.
  • Promote a safe working environment for all employees and clients.

Client Relations:

  • Engage with clients as necessary to build relationships.
  • Conduct quality control checks.
  • Identify and report any irrigation deficiencies.
  • Communicate status updates regarding assigned job sites with the Operations Manager and Account Manager.

Training:

  • Encourage personal growth and engage in training programs for irrigation procedures.

Category-Specific Duties:

  • Irrigation Maintenance:
  • Provide estimates and cultivate positive client relations.
  • Effectively operate pumps and other irrigation equipment.
  • Implement efficient water management techniques for assigned projects.
  • Identify drainage issues and manage problem soils.
  • Minimum of 2 years' experience in irrigation is required.
  • Irrigation certification is recommended.
  • Ability to comprehend blueprints.
  • Refuse Removal:
  • Safely operate refuse trucks in residential areas.
  • Lift and move heavy items as necessary.
  • Thorough understanding of lock-in/lock-out procedures.
  • Ability to operate a compactor safely.
  • Cleaning:
  • Comprehensive knowledge of proper PPE.
  • Safely utilize cleaning supplies and solvents.
  • Work effectively in residential and commercial areas.
  • Snow Removal:
  • Use snow removal equipment safely.
  • Understand safe driving techniques during snow and ice conditions.
  • Wear appropriate clothing for varying weather conditions.

QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS

  • Age Requirements: Must be at least 18 years old and comply with state-mandated labor laws.
  • Experience:
  • Previous experience as a Crew Member.
  • Preferred six (6) to twelve (12) months of commercial experience as a crew leader.
  • Completion of the prescribed "Crew Member" training guide is required.
  • Knowledge of:
  • Mainscape Standards of Excellence.
  • Ability to:
  • Promote safety for customers and employees at job sites.
  • Enforce company safety policies and procedures.
  • Effectively maneuver a truck and trailer combination.
  • Interact with customers daily as needed.
  • Identify and correct unsafe conditions and communicate actions to supervisors.
  • Maintain adherence to company policies, standards, and safety guidelines.
  • Collaborate with team members effectively.
  • Consistently meet or exceed company production rates.
  • Certificates, Licenses and/or Registrations:
  • Maintain a valid driver's license and meet company insurance requirements.
  • Pesticide License preferred (Fertilization).
  • Language Skills:
  • Ability to communicate effectively with supervisors and team members regarding tasks.
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) is a plus.
  • Physical Demands:
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee may regularly be required to:
  • Have full mobility in upper and lower body to work in various positions, including standing, bending, sitting, kneeling, and walking for extended periods.
  • Reach overhead with arms; climb or balance as required.
  • Utilize hands and fingers to handle tools and equipment.
  • Lifting, pulling, and pushing materials and equipment will be necessary for task completion.
  • Lift and/or move up to 25 pounds regularly and occasionally lift/move up to 75 pounds.
  • Maintain physical fitness to perform job tasks successfully.
  • Vision requirements include close, distance, color, peripheral vision, depth perception, and focus adjustment ability.
  • Working Conditions:
  • May require weekend or overtime hours as needed.
  • Odd hours may be required during adverse weather conditions.
  • This job may involve a mix of office, shop, and field time, exposing employees to all elements including various weather conditions.
  • Occasional exposure to fumes, airborne particles, and toxic or caustic chemicals is possible.
  • Noisy work environments may necessitate ear protection when working with equipment.

EVALUATION

Before advancing to Project Manager, an employee must have their Supervisor provide written verification of completing the following:

  • No unexcused absences within the past 6 months.
  • Punctuality with respect to arrival times in the past 6 months.
  • Consistent compliance with Mainscape dress code policy for the past 6 months.
  • Completion of training for all applicable service categories.
  • Demonstrated ability to perform all essential job responsibilities satisfactorily.
  • Supervisor's recommendation to advance to the new position.
