Field/Farm Worker: The Farm Worker performs general duties on the farm to ensure the overall quality of a farm is maintained by performing physical labor and operating machinery under the supervision of the ranch manager. Essential functions include planting, cultivating, and harvesting crops on the diversified-crop farm. The worker rides on planter machines or manually plants by digging furrow and covering after seed drop. They weed or thin plants using a hoe or gardening tools. They position, tie leaves, prune limbs, runners, buds from vines, on plants such as cucumber (all cucurbits), beans or all vine crops to work towards market-quality development. They set irrigation lines, check for leaks, flush out debris, and repair lines to irrigate seedlings for successful growth. They harvest crops using appropriate methods, such as picking, pulling, cleaning, cutting, sorting, bagging, boxing, and transporting to the facility for market ready product finish. They may also drive and operate farm machines to grow and harvest any combination of crops the farm grows. They help to safely attach farm implements such as plow/harrow, disk, bed shaper, roll tiller, fertilizer hopper, seed driller/planter, manure/sand spreader and soil spreader. They may construct trellises, repair fences and farm buildings, or participate in irrigation activities.
Nursery Worker: The Nursery Worker performs general duties on the farm to ensure the overall quality of a farm is maintained by performing physical labor and operating machinery under the supervision of the ranch manager. Essential functions include loading, unloading, preparing, and sanitizing seedling trays. They screen and mix farm compost and plant into seed bed either manually or semi-manually. They ride on planter machines to drop seedlings in furrow spouts. They weed or thin plants using a hoe or gardening tools. They position, tie leaves, prune limbs, runners, buds from vines, on plants such as cucumber (all cucurbits), beans or all vine crops to work towards market-quality development. They harvest crops using appropriate methods, such as picking, pulling, cleaning, cutting, sorting, bagging, boxing, and transporting to the facility for market ready product finish. They may also drive and operate farm machines to grow and harvest any combination of crops the farm grows. Tractor Operator / Land Prep: The Tractor/Farm Equipment Operator contributes to the efficiency of the farming fields by driving and controlling farm equipment to till soil and to plant, cultivate and harvest crops. The Tractor/Farm Equipment Operator may also operate stationary equipment to perform post-harvest tasks. Essential functions include operating tractors and other farm equipment safely and efficiently. They perform inspections of tractors and attachments to ensure they are well lubricated and in good working condition. They safely attach farm implements such as plow/harrow, disk, bed shaper, roll tiller, fertilizer hopper, seed driller/planter, manure/sand spreader and soil spreader. They determine and adjust tractor speed and implements to fit condition of grounds such as the depth, row width and field markers. They monitor machine operations to ensure optimum operations. They may need to use tractors to help transport materials and pull or push agricultural equipment. They operate tractors and farm equipment to help prepare fields.
The Lead Worker oversees and coordinates activities of Farm Workers engaged in planting, cultivating and harvesting the crops grown by Aloun Farm, Inc. The Lead Worker communicates with his Supervisor to evaluate weather and soil conditions and to ensure that the company's plans and procedures are understood and communicated to the work crews. The Lead Worker assists his Supervisor in assigning work tasks to field crew members, helps maintain material supplies and equipment, and helps monitor quality, safety and performance of workers. Instructions and overall supervision and direction of workers will be provided by a farm Supervisor. Lead workers will work under the instruction of the Supervisor to ensure workers are following instructions and may demonstrate tasks to other workers. They will report work progress and issues to the Supervisor. The worker also helps with inventory of materials, supplies, and equipment when necessary. The job also consists of ensuring the quality of work is correct and up to standard. The worker helps maintain, clean, and organize the mechanic shop.
The Crop Care/Sprayer contributes to the efficiency of the farming fields by spraying, driving and controlling farm equipment to till soil and to plant, cultivate, fertilize and harvest crops. The Crop Care/Sprayer may also operate stationary equipment to perform post-harvest tasks. Daily duties vary depending on the time of year. Essential functions include operating tractors and other farm equipment safely and efficiently. They select and apply specified chemical solutions to feed plants, kill insects, and treat diseases using hose, mist sprayer via farm tractors, implements, spray trailers, or portable back packs. They scout field for pests and diseases in the field for noxious insects and problematic disease spots, taking samples, and applying knowledge of identifying characteristics of insects and diseases. They perform inspections of tractors and attachments to ensure they are well lubricated and in good working condition. They safely attach farm implements such as plow/harrow, disk, bed shaper, roll tiller, fertilizer hopper, seed driller/planter, manure/sand spreader and soil spreader. They determine and adjust tractor speed and implements to fit condition of grounds such as the depth, row width and field markers. They monitor machine operations to ensure optimum operations. They use tractors to help transport materials and pull or push agricultural equipment. They operate tractors and farm equipment to help prepare fields. They keep records and assist the Farm License Supervisors or Manager in the duties of posting and compliance related tasks as required by the State of Hawaii and Federal USDA farm WPS (Workers Protection Standard).
