Job Summary:

Under direct supervision, performs a variety of communication functions including operating telephone/switchboard/paging systems, issuing paging equipment, clerical duties, and providing technical support. Collaborates with staff within and outside the department to accomplish job duties and assist others. Serves as a team player and role model.

Essential Responsibilities:

  1. Performs duties of telephone/switchboard operator, receiving, directing, scanning, and relaying routine and emergency calls/pages. Dispatches ESD and transport services before and after clinic hours. Provides appointment schedule information and back-up information services. Offers courtesy wake-up calls to physicians.
  2. Assists customers and staff with instruments, including installing and instructing on the Telephone Device for Deaf (TDD) and programming the Quiktel paging instrument.
  3. Performs clerical duties such as appointment verification, word processing, filing, and photocopying. Maintains on-call schedules, physicians' contact lists, and updates the Regional Automated Telephone Directory.
  4. Notifies relevant departments of issues with systems like the Automated Refill System, PPS prescription problems, and PRESTO refill lines. Logs complaints/issues and refers problems to supervisors.
  5. Receives and relays all telephone problems at Moanalua to supervisors or technicians.
  6. Dispatches ESD and transport services as needed.
  7. Screens inbound calls for critical care units, ambulatory treatment, and surgicenter.
  8. Assists Security and Parking with traffic control via overhead paging.
  9. Supports After Hours Advice nurses with technical issues, logs service interruptions, and transfers calls as needed.
  10. Instructs staff on programming paging devices.
  11. Relays messages for hospitalized members and notifies lead doctors of sick calls via paging groups.
  12. Provides back-up information services and appointment info outside of regular hours.
  13. Relays emergency messages to Home Health Nurses.
  14. Demonstrates knowledge and skills to provide age-appropriate and culturally sensitive care and services.
  15. Performs other duties as assigned.
