Description:

divh2Radiation Control Technician/h2pHelp conduct air, water, and surface radiation surveys in shipyard areas./ppCheck out deviations from normal or anticipated radiation levels./ppImplement radiological control (RADCON) procedures related to the storage, local transportation, and treatment of small volumes of nuclear waste./ppMonitor the storage and transportation of contaminated equipment./ppIdentify conditions which affect the determination of actions necessary to contain and control radiation./ppEnsure adherence to RADCON requirements./ppRecommend changes to work plans and trades procedures to improve radiological controls, correct deficiencies, increase efficiency, minimize exposure and prevent incidents./ppMust be a US Citizen./ppMust be determined suitable for federal employment./ppMust participate in the direct deposit pay program./ppNew employees to the Department of the Navy will be required to successfully pass the E-Verify employment verification check./ppWithin the Department of Defense (DoD), the appointment of retired military members within 180 days immediately following retirement date to a civilian position is subject to the provisions of 5 United States Code 3326./ppMales born after 12-31-59 must be registered for Selective Service./ppYou will be required to successfully complete a pre-appointment physical examination./ppYou will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty./ppYou may be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift./ppWork is performed in areas where potentially harmful physical and chemical agents are present (e.g. fumes, dust, heat, ionizing and non-ionizing radiation and chemicals). You will be required to participate in medical surveillance programs./ppThis position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time./ppThis is a Mission Essential position. You will be required to ensure organization or facility continuity of operations and/or completion of tasks that are considered essential to the mission designated by a local or command decision./ppQualifications:/ppGS-04: Six (6) months of general experience and six (6) months of specialized experience relative to radiological control operations and equivalent to the next lower grade level (GS-03)/ppGS-05: One year of specialized experience relative to radiological control operations and equivalent to the next lower grade level (GS-04)/ppGS-06: One year of specialized experience relative to radiological control operations and equivalent to the next lower grade level (GS-05)/ppGS-07: One year of specialized experience relative to radiological control operations and equivalent to the next lower grade level (GS-06)/ppGS-08: One year of specialized experience relative to radiological control operations and equivalent to the next lower grade level (GS-07)/ppGS-09: One year of professional specialized experience relative to radiological control operations and equivalent to the next lower grade level (GS-08)/ppGS-10: One year of professional specialized experience relative to radiological control operations and equivalent to the next lower grade level (GS-09)/ppAdditional qualification information can be found from the following Office of Personnel Management website:
