As an Experienced Customs and Border Protection Officer (CBPO), you will be an integral part of our dedicated workforce dedicated to safeguarding American citizens, deterring illegal activities, and enhancing the economic prosperity of our nation. Your role as a CBPO marks you as a significant participant in the Federal Law Enforcement Officer (LEO) profession.

Key Responsibilities Include:

  • Enforcing customs, immigration, and agriculture laws and regulations.
  • Facilitating the safe flow of legitimate trade and travel.
  • Conducting thorough inspections of individuals and conveyances.
  • Making critical admissibility determinations for entry into the United States.
  • Preventing illegal entry and the smuggling of prohibited goods and substances.

Salary, Benefits, and Recruitment Incentives:

Recruitment Incentives:

Newly appointed Customs and Border Protection Officers can receive incentives of up to $15,000 annually for a three- or four-year service commitment in specific locations.

Your annual base salary as a GS-9 officer ranges from $61,111 to $124,443, with additional locality pay based on your assigned duty location.

Beyond your starting salary, a typically trained CBPO may earn up to $45,000 in overtime pay. This position also allows for career progression from GS-5 through GS-12 based on successful performance.

Qualifications:

To qualify for the GS-9 grade level, you need:

  • One year of specialized experience in law enforcement activities.
  • Or a master's degree or higher, or two years of progressively higher-level graduate education.
  • Or a combination of both experience and education.

Other Requirements:

  • Must be a U.S. citizen.
  • Must have resided in the U.S. for three of the last five years.
  • Must be under the age of 40, unless meeting specific exceptions.
  • Successful completion of a rigorous training program is required.
