Duties & Responsibilities:
• Assumes responsibility for assigned mail delivery routes, instructs personnel/student employees in delivery of USPS and campus mail, monitors
compliance, and manages sorting and delivery transactions.
• Exercises judgment in determining appropriate mail classifications.
• Processes outgoing mail by weighing, metering, and preparing required forms; uses postal rate charts.
• Picks up/delivers mail across campus; operates state vehicles safely and maintains logs.
• Operates computers, postage metering machines, scales, and related office equipment.
• Investigates and processes special mailing claims.
• Receives, sorts, bundles, and prepares incoming interoffice and USPS mail for delivery.
• Receives, signs for, and maintains records of accountable mail from USPS and private couriers.
• Lifts bags, trays, packages, and boxes up to 70 pounds using proper safety procedures.
• Recommends improvements to efficiency and effectiveness of mail operations.
• Maintains travel logs and fuel levels; transports state vehicles for maintenance.
• Provides escort services for copy paper deliveries and shredding vendor across multiple locations.
• Assists with administrative tasks including recommending procedural changes, interpreting policies, and advising departments on mailing procedures.
• Verifies accuracy of work assignments and ensures deadlines are met.
• Performs duties requiring contact with faculty, staff, students, USPS, and vendors.
• Assumes supervisory duties when necessary.
Minimum Qualifications
• Possession of a baccalaureate degree in business administration or related field and 0-2 years of progressively responsible professional experience with responsibilities for mail operations; or any equivalent combination of education and/or professional work experience which provides the required education, knowledge, skills and abilities.
Functional knowledge of principles, practices and techniques in mail operations.
• Functional knowledge and understanding of principles, theories, federal and state laws, rules, regulations and systems associated with mail services and USPS requirements.
• Ability to recognize problems, identify causes, and resolve a full range of issues in mail operations.
• Ability to understand oral and written documentation, write reports and procedures, and communicate effectively.
• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external organizations.
• Ability to operate personal computer and word processing software.
