Leidos is seeking passionate Electric Distribution Engineers who are eager to excel in electric utility design engineering. This role focuses on maintaining our reputation for delivering exceptional quality in every project, from the simplest tasks to the most complex challenges. You will collaborate closely with clients, ensuring they receive top-tier service and expertise in areas such as NESC, Structural Pole Modeling, Electrical Power Calculations, GIS design training, Field Data Collection, and Client Design Standards. As an Electric Distribution Engineer, your key responsibilities will include:

  • Independently create design and construction work packages for moderately complex electrical overhead and underground distribution systems from 4kV to 138kV, focused on programmatic work like overloaded transformers and inspection reports.
  • Work within the project team to meet day-to-day objectives.
  • Review client-provided work and assess project requirements.
  • Support other technical staff with various tasks and assignments.
  • Develop permitting documents for different authorities having jurisdiction (AHJ).
  • Coordinate with permit agencies, right-of-way specialists, and third-party owners for joint use poles.
  • Collaborate with Project Managers and Technical Resources across multiple internal areas.
  • Explain technical solutions and procedures clearly within the organization.
  • Travel to sites and attend customer meetings as required.
  • Perform engineering calculations, including structural analysis for wood pole loading and voltage drop calculations.
  • Review engineering work done by peers for submission to clients.
  • Provide engineering support during and after construction to ensure compliance with standards.
  • Conduct root cause analysis of outages and propose engineering-based mitigation strategies.
  • Adhere to Leidos and client safety and quality standards.

What Sets You Apart (Background Requirements):

  • A minimum of 2 years of relevant experience.
  • Bachelor's degree in an Engineering discipline (Electrical, Mechanical, Civil, or Industrial) from an ABET accredited institution; additional experience/certifications may substitute for a degree.
  • Familiarity with NESC Standards and proficiency in AutoCAD, MicroStation, and Bluebeam or Adobe.
  • Experience with ESRI and GIS is a plus.
  • Knowledge of distribution design tools such as BOUD, Pole Foreman, Spida-Calc, and O-Calc is preferred.
  • Strong proficiency in MS Office applications (Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.).
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Willingness to perform both field and office work, with overnight travel estimated at 15-25%.
  • Ability to work in outdoor settings and use a personal vehicle.

Pay Range: Pay Range $57,850.00 - $104,575.00. The Leidos pay range for this position serves as a guideline and is subject to variation based on job responsibilities, qualifications, and market conditions.
