Job Description
Project Engineer – Commercial / Affordable Housing

Oahu, HI • $90,000–$115,000 (DOE)

About the Company

My client is one of Hawai‘i's most established general contractors, recognized for delivering large-scale commercial, residential, and community-focused projects across the islands. Their affordable housing and mixed-use division plays a critical role in building safe, reliable homes for local families — an effort backed by long-term partnerships, seasoned leadership, and a strong reputation for quality, schedule, and collaboration.

Much like Hawai‘i's top legacy builders, they are known for consistent execution, strong field coordination, and a genuine commitment to projects that serve the community. Their teams are stable, experienced, and take pride in building projects that matter.

About the Role

My client is seeking a Project Engineer to support affordable housing and mixed-use developments on Oahu. This role is a blend of field support, coordination, documentation, and schedule management, with direct involvement in multi-story residential construction and community-driven projects.

It's a strong fit for someone who wants to grow within a reputable GC while contributing to work that improves housing availability across Hawai‘i.

Key Responsibilities
  • Review, route, and track submittals, RFIs, shop drawings, and document clarifications.

  • Support Superintendents and Project Managers with daily field coordination.

  • Assist with project schedule updates (Primavera P6 or MS Project), identifying delays and helping implement recovery plans.

  • Manage procurement tracking, long-lead items, and vendor coordination.

  • Maintain QA/QC logs, testing requirements, inspection records, and compliance documentation.

  • Support project cost tracking, monthly reporting, and progress documentation.

  • Prepare daily logs, safety records, and field reports in alignment with company standards.

  • Coordinate with architects, engineers, consultants, and government agencies to resolve design and permitting issues.

Role Expectations
  • Maintain a steady presence both in the field and office.

  • Communicate clearly with superintendents, subcontractors, design partners, and consultants.

  • Uphold my client's standards for quality, safety, and community impact.

  • Anticipate conflicts early — design, sequencing, or logistics — and bring forward solutions.

  • Manage multiple scopes and trade packages with accuracy and organization.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, Architecture, or related field.

  • 3–6 years of vertical or commercial construction experience, ideally in residential or mixed-use projects.

  • Familiarity with affordable housing requirements and permitting processes is a plus.

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and Bluebeam; experience with P6 or MS Project preferred.

  • Strong communication, problem-solving, and teamwork abilities.

  • Ability to read and interpret drawings, specifications, and contract documents.

Why Join My Client?
  • Competitive Salary: $90,000–$115,000 (DOE)

  • Benefits: Medical, Dental, Vision, PTO, Holidays, 401(k) with match

  • Stability: Work with a respected GC known for excellence across commercial, civil, and resort markets

  • Growth: Clear advancement into Senior Project Engineer and Assistant Project Manager roles

  • Impact: Help deliver affordable housing that supports Hawai‘i's local communities
