Snapshot / Role Overview
We're seeking a Mechanical Preconstruction Director in Honolulu, Hawaii to lead design-assist and design-build efforts for commercial mechanical projects from concept through construction.

• Build trusted relationships with owners, general contractors, and design partners
Responsibilities
• Lead conceptual design development on incomplete documents to ensure competitive proposals
• Generate and review engineering calculations for HVAC and plumbing systems
• Develop value engineering options in partnership with owners, architects, and engineers
• Create budget estimates with clear scope definitions from early-stage design information
• Track scope changes and update estimates through final design completion
• Partner with operations to review project schedules and identify delivery risks
• Conduct code and regulatory investigations to ensure compliance
• Support proposal development and interview preparation for project pursuits
• Coordinate constructability reviews with project managers and superintendents
• Mentor estimating and preconstruction staff on best practices
Requirements
Must-Haves
• 8+ years of experience in HVAC and plumbing design or preconstruction services
• Strong knowledge of mechanical engineering principles and system design
• Proficiency with estimating tools such as Bluebeam, Excel, and takeoff software
• Proven ability to manage budgets and track scope changes accurately
• Excellent communication skills for client-facing interactions
Nice-to-Haves
• Professional Engineer (PE) license
• Experience with design-build and design-assist project delivery
• Familiarity with the Honolulu construction market
• Background mentoring junior preconstruction staff
