FULL TIME POSITIONOVERTIME ENABLER

Position Summary

PSI is the largest privately owned shipyard in Hawaii, with two of the largest dry docks in the state. We have been in business since 1944 and have a large labor force of skilled craftsmen with a full support staff of professionals who comprise engineering, project management, QA, EHS, accounting, contracts, and human resources.

Responsibilities

  • Apply coatings by operating conventional spray systems, airless spray systems, and plural spray systems. Proficiency in application and use of plural spray systems is preferred.
  • Safely operate various types of equipment and tools such as blast pots, spray guns, airless spray systems, sandblasting tools and equipment and rust removal hand and pneumatic tools.
  • Apply paint with brush and roll.
  • Maintain consistent mileage while spraying.
  • Prepare surfaces, grind, sand, polish, caulk, and seal.
  • Mix paints to desired colors and consistencies.
  • Read and interpret drawings, sketches and blueprints.
  • Operate blasting pot and manage hoses, pressure, and abrasive load.
  • Apply masking materials to protect designated areas.
  • Operate man lift, work at heights, and swing stage (training required).
  • Wear respirator and required PPE.

  • Computer proficiency in Microsoft Office.

Education and Training
  • High school graduate or GED.
  • Blasters with SSPC C7 certification and painters with SSPC C12 and/or certifications.
  • 12 years of marine?related experience.
  • Willing to train the right person; candidates with 23 years in automotive bodywork, concrete cleaning or structural blasting and painting considered.

Physical Demands
  • Stand, walk, reach, balance, stoop, kneel or crouch regularly.
  • Climb vertical ladders repeatedly.
  • Talk, hear, smell, use hands to finger, handle or feel.
  • Sit regularly.
  • Lift and/or move up to 25 lbs, frequently up to 50 lbs and occasionally up to 100 lbs.
  • Apply up to 75 ft?pounds of torque in assembly, dismantling, erection, and installation of structures.
  • Swing a 10?lb hammer regularly.

Qualifications
  • Proof of legal right to work in the United States.
  • US citizenship required for security clearance.
  • Must obtain TWIC, DBIDS, Rapid Gate ID card and pass post?offer drug screening, physical test and background check.
  • Reliable transportation to get to work and job sites.
  • Availability for overtime, weekends, holidays and varying shifts.
  • Valid Hawaii REAL ID?compliant drivers license (or U.S. passport + valid Hawaii license if not real?ID).

This position is represented by The International Brotherhood of Boilermakers, Iron Shipbuilders, Blacksmiths, Forgers, and Helpers, AFL?CIO and its Local Lodge 627. Candidates must become a union member as a condition of employment.
