Supervises and participates in performing a variety of manual work in groundskeeping as a major work assignment. Supervises the work of a crew in performing manual work in the cleaning, care and maintenance of landscaped grounds and adjacent areas; and performs other related duties as assigned.
To qualify, you must meet all of the following requirements: Legal Authorization to Work Requirement: The State of Hawaii requires all persons seeking employment with the government of the State shall be citizens, nationals, or permanent resident aliens of the United States, or eligible under federal law for unrestricted employment in the United States. Experience and Training: TWO YEARS of full-time work experience in the care and maintenance of grounds and other landscaped areas; or an equivalent combination of experience and training. Knowledge of: Care and cultivation of shrubs, flowers, trees, and lawns; use, care and operation of grounds maintenance equipment such as a power mower, edgers and trimmers, as well as hand tools used in grounds maintenance work. Ability to: Assign and supervise the work of others, keep time and attendance records; gain the cooperation of others; understand and follow oral and written instructions; operate and use grounds maintenance equipment and hand tools; perform lifting, carrying and other manual work typical of the class. Driver's License: Some positions require possession of a valid driver's license at the time of appointment. The immediate vacancy has this requirement. Prison Rape Elimination Act (PREA) Requirement: As required by the Prison Rape Elimination Act of 2003 (PREA), Federal law states that "....an agency shall not hire or promote anyone who may have contact with inmates and who: (1) Has engaged in sexual abuse in a prison, jail, lockup, community confinement facility, juvenile facility or other institution. (2) Has been convicted of engaging or attempting to engage in sexual activity in the community facilitated by force, overt or implied threats of force, or coercion, or if the victim did not consent or was unable to consent or refuse. (3) Has been civilly or administratively adjudicated to have engaged in the activity described in #2 above. (4) Has been the subject of substantiated allegations of sexual abuse or sexual harassment or resigned during a pending investigation of alleged sexual abuse or sexual harassment. Other Requirements: Applicants who are conditionally offered employment or conditionally approved for movement into positions with the Department of Public Safety shall be subject to drug screening, as required by Federal, State or local laws or departmental policy; and will be subject to an intensive background check.
