Requirements of Position

Note: This position requires a current and valid driver's license to operate a motor vehicle.

Summary of Duties

Conducts developmentally appropriate, video‑recorded forensic interviews alleged child abuse victims and/or child witnesses to crimes; testifies in court; provides training and consultation in forensic interviews; assists with coordination of child abuse cases; and performs other related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualification Requirements

Education

Graduation from an accredited college or university with a baccalaureate degree in psychology, child development, social work, criminal justice, or a related field, or equivalent work experience. The education or experience background must demonstrate the ability to write reports, read complex material, perform research, and solve complex problems logically.

Specialized Experience

  • Two and one‑half (2‑1/2) years of progressively responsible professional child interviewing experience, including assessments of child abuse and/or child witnesses to crimes of violence.
  • Demonstrated ability to display tact, discretion, and capacity for obtaining cooperation and confidence of children.
  • Ability to view and deal with sensitive and graphic child abuse information, including crime‑scene photo evidence.
  • Use of judgment to collect and assemble facts and related data.
  • Logical and objective analysis and evaluation of facts, evidence, and related information to arrive at sound conclusions.
  • Ability to present interview findings clearly and concisely in written and oral reports.
  • Testification in court in a credible and effective manner.

Non‑Qualifying Experience

  • Experience that does not involve training or application of the aforementioned knowledge, abilities, and skills.
  • Experience acquired in essentially clerical, para‑professional, or support‑level tasks.

Substitution of Education for Specialized Experience

  • A master's degree in psychology, child development, social work, criminal justice, or a related field may substitute for one (1) year of specialized experience.
  • A juris doctor degree may substitute for one (1) year of specialized experience.

Driver's License Requirement

Position requires a current and valid driver's license to operate a motor vehicle.
