Other Conditions: General funds, 20 hours per week, to begin January 2026, pending position clearance, availability of funds, and actual staffing requirements. Assignments may include evening, weekend and holiday hours, and on occasion may exceed 20 hours per week.

Duties and Responsibilities

  1. **Under the direction of the Theatre Manager, this position is responsible for the coordination of the technical aspects of WCC's Paliku Theatre, a 300 seat campus theater.
  2. **Position is required to work a variable work schedule and may require work outside of normally scheduled work hours including day, evenings, holidays, and weekends.
  3. **Trains and supervises temporary hire(s) serving as technical assistants in theater productions.
  4. **Serves as a technical director for assigned WCC productions including set construction, prop construction, lighting, and sound set up.
  5. **Coordinates the technical aspects of outside community functions that use/rent Paliku Theatre.
  6. **Orders supplies, equipment, and parts as required for theater productions. Contacts vendors for prices, writes up requests for quotes and makes necessary purchases. Responsible for maintaining inventory of theater equipment.
  7. **Performs troubleshooting and repair of all specialized (sound and lighting) theater equipment and inventory, to include but not limited to lighting instruments, audio mixer, amplifiers and other related theater equipment.
  8. **Directs, coordinates and performs all operational and technical aspects of the theatre and theatre productions. Performs all designs in hanging lights, cabling, positioning of light pipes and stands, and focusing and patching.
  9. **Maintains the Safety Procedures & Operational Manual.
  10. Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications
  1. Possession of a baccalaureate degree in theater, theater design, drama, educational media, or related field; and 3 year(s) of progressively responsible professional experience with responsibilities for technical theater production in the area of sound and lighting; or equivalent combination of education and/or professional work experience which provides the required education, knowledge, skills and abilities as indicated.
  2. Considerable working knowledge of principles, practices and techniques in the area of theater production methods and techniques as demonstrated by the broad knowledge of the full range of pertinent standard and evolving concepts, principles and methodologies.
  3. Considerable working knowledge and understanding of applicable federal and state laws, rules, regulations and theories and systems associated with theater production methods and techniques.
  4. Demonstrated ability to resolve wide ranging complex problems through the use of creative reasoning and logic to accurately determine the cause of the problems and the resolution of the problems in an effective, innovative and timely manner.
  5. Demonstrated ability to interpret and present information and ideas clearly and accurately in writing, verbally and by preparation of reports and other materials.
  6. Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external organizations, groups, team leaders and members, and individuals.
  7. Demonstrated ability to operate a personal computer and apply word processing and spreadsheet software.
  8. For supervisory work, demonstrated ability to lead subordinates, manage work priorities and projects, and manage employee relations.
  9. Ability to train and supervise temporary hires in the technical production methods and techniques.
  10. Knowledge of the materials, supplies, and equipment necessary for the operation of a theater scene shop.
  11. Skill in the use of general shop tools and equipment and their safe utilization.
  12. Ability to conceptualize future production problems and to schedule operations to meet required deadlines.
  13. Ability to work a variable schedule, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.

Desirable Qualifications
  1. Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot and repair theater equipment.
  2. Demonstrated ability to operate and maintain projectors and other theater equipment.
  3. Considerable knowledge of electrical circuits.
  4. Knowledge of software applications for programming video and sound production.
  5. Video production skills.
  6. Skill in the safe operation of backstage equipment.
  7. Knowledge of computer Web page design.
