Electronic Technician B, Electrician - Range Communications
Alaka`ina Foundation Family of Companies (FOCs) is seeking an experienced Electronics Technician and licensed Journeyman Electrician to provide operational and maintenance support to the Pacific Missile Range Facility (PMRF) in Kekaha, Kauai.

Opportunity to work with low‑voltage power distribution, major battery back‑up UPS systems, photovoltaic systems, and telecommunications equipment. The role requires independent work under minimal supervision and occasional travel and at‑sea support.

Responsibilities

  • Set up, operate, monitor, and maintain communication systems and equipment for range operations.
  • Maintain low‑voltage distribution, grounding, major battery backup systems, photovoltaic systems, and assist with telecommunications cable plant.
  • Perform periodic inspections and maintenance in accordance with procedures and OEM guidelines, documenting results.
  • Diagnose and repair systems using electronic/mechanical schematics and testing equipment.
  • Install, test, calibrate, and accept new or relocated systems and equipment.
  • Cross‑train in Communications Security (COMSEC) functions such as accounting, loading, and destruction of classified cryptographic materials.
  • Travel as required for operations and maintenance at other state locations, including at sea.
  • Perform additional duties and cross‑train in telecommunications as needed.

Environment and Physical Demands

  • Laboratory, shop, field, and command & control center environments.
  • Lift and carry equipment up to 50 lbs.; climb towers and work in confined spaces.
  • Extended standing, walking, kneeling, and stair climbing; work in inclement weather.

Required Education, Certification, and Experience

  • High school diploma or equivalent plus one of the following:
    • Associate's degree or equivalence in a related field.
    • Journey Work Electrician License.
    • Two‑year technical school or Navy "A" school specializing in basic electricity and electronics.
    • Soldering certificate and related licensing.
    • State of Hawaii Journeyman Electrician License.
  • Five (5) years of experience as a licensed Journeyman Electrician with knowledge of the National Electric Code and low‑voltage systems.
  • Proficiency in test equipment for power distribution, photovoltaic systems experience, and schematic diagram interpretation.
  • Knowledge of the OSI 7‑Layer model and Windows/Linux operating systems.
  • MS Office proficiency (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint).

Desired Skills

  • Major battery backup and power distribution system experience.
  • Two years of progressive experience in electronic and electrical systems.
  • Experience with radio frequency (RF) systems, including transmission & antenna, satellite, and related telecommunications technologies.
  • Telecommunications cable plant and distribution frame experience.

Citizenship and Clearance

  • U.S. Citizen.
  • Secret security clearance required or eligibility to obtain one.
