Brief Posting Description

The P MC PLANNING & CONSTRUCTION FIELD SERVICES Department of the P OPERATIONS PLANNING & CONSTRUCTION MANAGEMENT Division at Hawaiian Electric Company has 1 Management vacancy available (Role: Professional Supervisor).

Job Function

Establishes T&D infrastructure roadmap and data collection systems, drives T&D's field maintenance and asset management, and leads, supervises, directs, and monitors the maintenance work planning of the Company's transmission and distribution assets to ensure cost‑effective, timely and reliable maintenance that complies with regulatory and legal requirements.

Essential Functions

  • Establishes T&D infrastructure roadmap, including evaluating new technologies, developing and implementing pilot programs to evaluate new technologies, creating business cases and driving the implementation of new technologies onto the T&D system.
  • Collaborates with Asset Management, T&D Operations, System Operations, Engineering, Test and Substation, and other personnel to develop data systems, data collection (including mobile data collection tools), data analysis, equipment monitoring, root‑cause analysis, failure prevention, and other programs using current and new technologies.
  • Establishes T&D's maintenance basis, manages maintenance programs and activities, and develops a strategic plan for T&D inspections to ensure the transmission and distribution systems' availability to meet system demands while optimizing the use of internal resources. Functions as Energy Delivery T&D's Asset Manager. Conducts on‑site field investigations.
  • Supervises work of assigned personnel (including performance appraisals, teamwork, two‑way communication, training and development, safety, and discipline) to ensure effective performance.
  • Participates in company emergency response activities as assigned, including any activities required to prepare for such emergency response.

Basic Qualifications – Knowledge Requirements

  • Working knowledge of maintenance management philosophies/methodologies is required. Knowledge of a wide range of issues associated with the electrical, mechanical and structural aspects of equipment design, operation and maintenance and the ability to stay current with changing technologies.
  • Thorough knowledge of engineering fundamentals in the appropriate specialty area (i.e., civil, structural, electrical) normally acquired through advanced, college‑level courses or equivalent experience.
  • Working knowledge of appropriate federal, state, industry and company regulations codes and practices.
  • Working knowledge of project management principles, construction practices in the transmission & distribution fields, normally acquired through college‑level training and/or equivalent experience.
  • Working knowledge of personal computers and/or mainframe systems and related software applications (i.e., spreadsheets, word processing, work order management system, scheduling system, etc.).
  • Thorough knowledge of union contract, company policies and department policies/practices.
  • Registered Professional Engineer (PE) in one of the following engineering disciplines – Electrical, Civil, Structural required to provide professional level skills and knowledge and credibility with the public and regulators.

Basic Qualifications – Skills Requirements

  • Supervisory/leadership skills and abilities to work with a variety of individuals occasionally dealing with sensitive, difficult or confrontational issues. This includes the ability to handle these issues while using tact, courtesy, and discretion.
  • Effective process management skills to organize resources and activities in order to improve and integrate work processes.
  • Ability to perform, both as individual contributor and as a member of a self‑directed work team.
  • General troubleshooting skills and the ability to perform root‑cause analyses.
  • Must have or be able to qualify for a State of Hawaii driver's license. Must meet the standards for driving positions stated in the Hiring Standards for Driving Positions policy. These standards may be adjusted periodically to meet business and safety objectives.
  • Ability to remain flexible in a demanding work environment and adapt to rapidly changing priorities.
  • Ability to effectively communicate, both verbally and in writing, with entities within and external to the Company.
  • In‑depth analytical and computational skills for technical writing, statistical computations, and economic analysis.
  • Demonstrative organizational and conceptual skills to be able to assess the demands of the job and to recommend proper actions.
  • Effective presentation and platform skills.
  • Demonstrate leadership and interpersonal skills and abilities to influence, motivate and persuade various groups or individuals.
  • Must be willing and able to be transported by helicopter.

Basic Qualifications – Experience Requirements

  • Extensive (7–10) years of experience in T&D operations and maintenance and/or design in overhead and underground transmission (138 kV and 46 kV) and distribution (25 kV and below) or related electrical experience.
  • Several (3–5) years of related work experience in a supervisory or team‑lead capacity.
  • Several (3–5) years of project management experience preferably with an electrical utility.
  • A few (1–2) years of related experience in preparing operating budgets and managing expenses.

Hiring Range: $97,900.00 to $125,000.00. The person selected will be placed according to their skills and qualifications.
