Job Details

This position heads the Field Consultant Unit of the Bridge Design Section, Design Branch, Highways Division, Department of Transportation. Duties and responsibilities include conducting preliminary location, type and cost studies; preparing, supervising and approving design computations, plan specifications and estimates for bridges, separation structures, retaining walls, pedestrian facilities, tunnels, culverts, small buildings and other structures; developing, preparing, reviewing and approving construction and maintenance plans, specifications, proposals, estimate details and computations for both State designed and consultant designed projects; and performing other related duties as assigned.

To qualify, applicants must meet all of the following requirements:

• Professional License: In order to perform the duties and responsibilities of this position, applicants must possess knowledge of principles, practices, methods and techniques of structural engineering; engineering mechanics and the mechanics of materials as it relates to structural engineering design and functions; and the ability to perform and supervise structural engineering design, construction and inspection activities; analyze stresses and determine the required foundations and structural features. Therefore, applicants MUST POSSESS a valid State of Hawaii Professional Engineer license.
• Basic Education: A bachelor's degree from a school of engineering from an accredited four-year college or university.
• Engineering Experience: Four (4) years of progressively responsible professional engineering experience.
• Supervisory Experience/Aptitude or Staff Advisory Experience: Applicants must possess Supervisory Experience/Aptitude and/or Staff Advisory Experience.
• Driver's License: Applicants must possess a valid driver's license.
