Essential Job Functions
The Program Assistant is responsible for working closely with participants and team members, offering essential support and care while encouraging active engagement in daily activities in a community-based, social model of care. This includes assisting with activities of daily living (ADLs) as needed, supporting therapeutic activities, and ensuring adherence to the participant activity plan. The role also involves accompanying participants to the bathroom, assisting with transitions between activities, and acting as their primary caregiver when necessary. In addition, the Program Assistant helps with meal and snack service and maintains cleanliness in bathrooms and activity areas. The focus is on fostering independence, preserving dignity, promoting mental and physical stimulation, preventing falls, and encouraging socialization, hydration, and nutrition to enhance and sustain participants' overall well-being.
Requirements
Educational Requirements: High School Graduate or equivalent. Nursing Assistant Certificate or equivalent, preferred. Current CPR and First Aid Certification.
Experience: Six (6) months of experience in an adult day care center, nursing home or community health agency. Experience working with the elderly and cognitively impaired participants preferred.
Essential Functions:
• Provides companionship and emotional support, fostering a positive and inclusive atmosphere.
• Actively participates in planning, facilitating and supporting participants in community, recreational, therapeutic and social activities designed to enhance physical and cognitive well-being. Executes scheduled activities for the day.
• Helps set up, facilitate and clean up after activities, events and meals.
• Plan, prepare, escort participants on field trip outings, in rotation.
• Listens to participants, implements rational requests and relays information to appropriate persons as needed.
• Assists participants with Activities of Daily Living including mobility support, toileting, dressing, eating.
• Provides bath to participants as directed by client's caregiver, ensuring dignity, comfort, and safety.
• Facilitates daily exercise utilizing all resources provided by manager.
• Responsible for cleaning dishes, laundry and sweeping on a rotational basis.
• Follows all infection control procedures, safety guidelines and program policies.
• Ensures compliance with HIPAA.
• Adheres to and complies with the department and organizational code of ethics, policies, procedures, objectives and productivity guidelines.

• Other tasks/duties as needed/assigned.
Communication: Excellent customer service and interpersonal skills with ability to show compassion, patience, maintain composure and interact with clients and their families with courtesy and respect. Daily contact with colleagues, other departments, vendors, visitors and organizations outside the St. Francis Healthcare SystemRequires courtesy and respect. Must be able to listen/understand what the client needs are and clearly communicate with the client. Job requires employees to communicate in English while in public/common areas where conversations can be overheard by others. Supports individual and team efforts by encouraging, influencing, and engaging others with different backgrounds, experiences, and points of view. Adjusts communication to fit the audience. Keep others appropriately informed of goals and objectives.
