The Aquaculture Specialist in state service is a staff specialist substantially engaged in project proposal evaluation, contract preparation and execution, and project monitoring; funding opportunities; reviews various complex plans, proposals, and development projects for overall technical feasibility and makes appropriate recommendations. Conducts complex research and develops recommendations to aquaculture producers which involves comprehensive knowledge of industry policies, rules, and regulations.
To qualify, you must meet all of the following requirements: Legal Authorization to Work Requirement: The State of Hawaii requires all persons seeking employment with the government of the State shall be citizens, nationals, or permanent resident aliens of the United States, or eligible under federal law for unrestricted employment in the United States. Education: A bachelor's degree from an accredited four (4) year college or university with a major in animal sciences, aquaculture, marine sciences, or a closely related field. Specialized Experience: Four (4) years of professional work experience in aquaculture commercial production, aquaculture program administration, or aquaculture research. Such work must have provided knowledge in the areas of scientific and/or business elements of aquaculture. Examples of acceptable experience in the above areas are: 1) scientific elements of aquaculture - work which involved knowledge of several pertinent factors such as species biology, site assessment, pond design and development, harvesting techniques, disease diagnosis and prevention, health management, water quality management, water chemistry, soil analysis, and/or production management; and 2) business elements of aquaculture - work which included concern with optimum management of an aquaculture business, e.g., efficiency of production and reduction of production costs. Driver's License: Applicants must possess a valid driver's license at the time of appointment. Possession of the required number of years of experience will not in itself be accepted as proof of qualification for a position. The applicant's overall experience must have been of such scope and level of responsibility as to conclusively demonstrate that they have the ability to perform the duties of the position for which they are being considered.
