Director of Growth & Training at REMAX Hawaii
REMAX Hawai'i is seeking an experienced Controller to oversee and manage a variety of high-level accounting tasks, ensuring that our financial operations are effective, efficient, and accurate. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in accounting, with a specific understanding of real estate industry financial operations. As a Controller, you will play a key role in the financial health and growth of our business by managing the full accounting cycle, maintaining compliance, and supporting senior leadership with accurate financial reporting and analysis. Candidates should be comfortable working in a fast-paced and high-pressure environment and have a strong sense of team and collaborative spirit.
Key Responsibilities:
- Financial Reporting and Analysis:
- Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements, including balance sheets, income statements, and cash flow statements.
- Conduct variance analysis to identify discrepancies and opportunities for financial improvements.
- Provide financial insights and forecasts to senior management to assist in decision-making.
- Prepare ad-hoc financial reports and analyses as needed.
- Oversee the accounting for real estate transactions, ensuring all commissions, fees, and escrow accounts are properly recorded.
- Manage the accurate accounting for agent commissions, broker fees, and split agreements.
- Work closely with agents to ensure timely and accurate processing of real estate closings and commissions.
- Ensure that commission structures and payments align with company policies and industry standards.
- Cash Management:
- Manage the companys cash flow, ensuring sufficient liquidity for daily operations.
- Forecast and monitor cash flow needs to ensure that operating expenses and payroll are met.
- Maintain and reconcile bank accounts, including escrow and trust accounts, ensuring all deposits and withdrawals are accurate and timely.
- Budgeting and Forecasting:
- Lead the annual budget process, collaborating with senior management to set financial goals.
- Track budget performance, identifying areas of concern, and proposing corrective actions.
- Provide periodic forecasts and updates to the executive team regarding financial performance and any anticipated changes in revenue or expenses.
- Tax Compliance and Reporting:
- Prepare and file local, state, and federal tax returns, including sales tax, payroll tax, and other compliance-related filings.
- Oversee tax planning strategies to minimize tax liabilities.
- Ensure that all tax-related deadlines are met and that necessary documentation is provided to external auditors or tax advisors.
- Internal Controls and Compliance:
- Develop, implement, and maintain internal controls to safeguard company assets and ensure compliance with accounting policies and procedures.
- Oversee the auditing process and work with external auditors to ensure smooth and timely audits.
- Ensure that all financial processes and records adhere to regulatory standards and accounting principles (GAAP).
- Team Management:
- Supervise and mentor the accounting team, ensuring accurate and timely completion of financial tasks.
- Foster a collaborative and efficient work environment, promoting continuous professional development.
- Assist in recruiting and onboarding new team members as needed.
- Affiliated Company Financial Integration:
- Incorporate and consolidate financial data from affiliated companies
- Ensure accurate and timely reporting of financial results for all entities
- Collaborate with affiliated companies to align accounting practices and reporting standards
- Brokerage Financial Strategy:
- Collaborate with senior leadership to develop financial strategies and performance metrics that align with the brokerages growth and profitability goals.
- Analyze market trends and economic conditions to help guide financial decisions.
- System Improvement and Automation:
- Identify areas for process improvement and implement accounting software or automation tools to streamline operations.
- Stay up-to-date with the latest accounting technologies and trends relevant to the real estate industry.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field; CPA or equivalent certification preferred.
- Minimum of 5 years of accounting experience, with at least 2 years in a real estate or property management environment.
- Strong knowledge of accounting principles (GAAP), tax regulations, and real estate accounting practices.
- Proficient in accounting software and advanced Excel skills.
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to present financial data to non-financial stakeholders.
- Strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and the ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
- Proven leadership abilities and experience managing teams.
- This is a full-time, in-office position located at our Kahala office.
