Overview


The H ST SAFETY BIG ISLAND Department of the P SAFETY Division at Hawaiian Electric Company has one management vacancy available (Role: Professional).


Responsibilities



  • Supports the companys industrial hygiene programs such as the Hearing Conservation Program, Respiratory Program, and Ergonomic Program. Responds to and coordinates testing and training for other industrial hygiene concerns. Schedules audiometric tests and maintains test records in accordance with applicable regulations. Coordinates medical testing required for respirator use. Coordinates fit testing for respirator users and ensures that respirator equipment is calibrated, and supplies are available to all departments. Conducts ergonomic inspections and coordinates ergonomic evaluations and training for all departments. Conducts First Aid/CPR/AED training for employees.

  • Administers the companys Substance Abuse Program including random and pre-employment drug testing program for commercial drivers (CDL) and pipeline operators. Administers the Commercial Drivers Program and Driver Improvement Program (DIP) and ensures the program is updated and approved by the Department of Transportation. Ensures all program requirements are met annually. Administers the CDL Driver Qualification Program. Schedules driver DOT physicals, drug testing and maintains DOT and DIP files. Administers the Forklift Program and ensures all files are maintained according to requirements. Coordinates forklift training.

  • Coordinates Safety Division safety training and safety orientation sessions for employees, contractors, agencies, and others. Conducts New Employee Safety Orientations. Coordinates and conducts Contractor Safety Orientations and maintains records. Develops and maintains New Employee Safety Orientation packets. Develops training course materials and presentation, including course authoring. Administers Computer-Based Training Program and database. Prepares training rooms including arranging seating, setting up equipment, etc.

  • Administers the companys Electronic Access Control System. Creates and issues employee, contractor, and visitor ID badges. Obtains and reviews background checks for contractors and ensures ID badges are issued within company guidelines. Maintains the Consolidated Contractor Safety Orientation and Unescorted Access list. Develops and maintains security records of parking permits, badges, and remote controls. Conducts periodic employee parking pass inspections and issues non-compliance reports to affected departments. Participates in security projects on Hawaii Island, as necessary. Assists in establishing operational procedures for activities such as Fire Prevention Evacuation Plan, facility traffic control, and vehicle parking control.

  • Maintains employee health and safety files and coordinates medical evaluation appointments. Inputs and maintains data into various programs such as SAP-Environmental, Health & Safety Management system, and other safety database programs to track safety information including training, contractor data, industrial injuries, vehicle/near-miss/general public accidents and incidents.

  • Provides other administrative and clerical work for Safety Division. Maintains inventory and purchases supplies for the Safety Division such as PPE and equipment. Completes the payment of invoices for service providers for the division such as the fire protection vendor and alarm companies. Supports the development and tracking of the budget.

  • Participates in Company emergency response activities as assigned, including any activities required to prepare for such emergency response.


Qualifications



  • Thorough knowledge of OSHA/HIOSH/DOH regulations concerning industrial hygiene and applicable safety rules and regulations for utility companies.

  • Thorough knowledge of DOT regulations for drug testing for commercial drivers and pipeline operators.

  • Working knowledge of workers compensation and safety principles and practices.

  • Certified Hearing Conservationist to perform audiometric testing.

  • Thorough knowledge of Company policies and procedures contained in documents such as the Accident Prevention Manual, Collective Bargaining Agreement, Corporate Code of Conduct, General Information Manual, etc.

  • Basic knowledge of electrical transmission and distribution systems, and power generation units preferred.

  • Strong organizational skills, ability to handle difficult and/or sensitive issues while using tact, courtesy and discretion.

  • Must have or be able to qualify for a State of Hawaii drivers license. Must meet the standards for driving positions stated in the Hiring Standards for Driving Positions policy.

  • Must be able to qualify for certification in areas of responsibility including Hearing Conservation and Forklift operation.


Experience Requirements



  • Two or more years of experience in general safety administration or human resources.

  • Two or more years of experience administering industrial hygiene programs preferred.
