This is a Regular, Full-Time, Limited-Term (not to exceed twelve months in duration from date of hire), RCUH Non-Civil Service position with the University of Hawaii at Manoa, College of Tropical Agriculture and Human Resilience (CTAHR), Department of Plant and Environmental Protection Sciences (PEPS), located in Honolulu, Hawaii.

Monthly Salary: $3,334/Mon.

Duties:
Independently conducts and coordinates pesticide efficacy and residue trials following good field and laboratory practices. Coordinates with experiment station personnel and growers, and supervises student help in field preparation and maintenance operations. Drives to field research sites to conduct research trials. Establishes and maintains test plots on University Research Stations. Accurately measures liquid and dry formulations of pesticides. Applies pesticides to research plots using properly calibrated commercial or research spray equipment. Evaluates pesticide efficacy and phytotoxicity; accurately records the data. Properly collects commodity samples from research plots. Calibrates and maintains field and lab equipment following good laboratory practice standards.

Primary Qualifications:

  • Education: Bachelor's Degree from an accredited four-year college or university in agriculture, biology, entomology, plant pathology, weed science, or related field.
  • Experience: Up to one year of experience in pest management research.
  • Knowledge: Knowledge of the principles, practices, and techniques used in crop production.
  • Abilities and Skills: Demonstrated ability to understand oral and written documentation, write reports, and communicate effectively in a variety of situations. Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external organizations, groups, team members, and individuals.

Requirements:
Must possess a valid driver's license and maintain throughout the duration of employment. Post Offer/Employment Condition: Must be able to obtain State of Hawaii Certification for Application of Restricted Use Pesticides license, Category 10, Demonstration, Research and Instructional Pest Control, within six months from date of hire and maintain throughout duration of employment.

Physical/Medical Demands:
Must be able to travel to neighbor islands for one to two day periods to conduct pesticide efficacy and residue trials at Research Stations or cooperators' fields. Must be able to lift and carry up to fifty pounds.
