Positions in this class perform professional work in planning, organizing, managing, implementing and evaluating projects according to project management principles and methods. Projects managed by positions in this class are complex and require navigating through various issues and project constraints by applying general policies and guidelines. Projects are of a lesser scope and complexity in comparison to those managed by a Project Manager II.
The work involves defining project goals to determine required project outcomes; analyzing and creating detailed project plans that identify deliverables, timelines, costs, resources and potential risk; regularly communicating with project staff, consultants, contractors and other stakeholders on project activities; monitoring project progress to ensure milestones are met on time; developing and implementing mechanisms to evaluate project successes and areas in need of improvement on an ongoing basis; and recommending and facilitating changes to project processes to ensure desired outcomes and deliverables.
Legal Authorization to Work: The State of Hawaii requires all persons seeking employment with the government of the State shall be citizens, nationals, or permanent resident aliens of the United States, or eligible under federal law for unrestricted employment in the United States.
Basic Education: Bachelor's degree from an accredited four-year college or university.
Specialized Experience: Three and one-half (3-1/2) years of progressively responsible professional experience planning, directing, managing, monitoring, and evaluating projects. Such experience must include determining project goals, scope, deliverables, timelines, costs, and resources; leading project teams; administering budgets and contracts; tracking project progress to ensure that milestones are met on time and within budget; documenting project progress; and identifying metrics for project evaluation.
Driver's License: Applicants must possess a valid driver's license at the time of appointment.
