Overview

Senior Construction Inspector – City and County of Honolulu. The Department of Environmental Services, Division of Collection System Maintenance, located at the Halawa Baseyard, seeks a Senior Construction Inspector to independently inspect the most complex IDIQ construction projects.

What You7ll Do

  • Ensure compliance with plans, specifications, work agreements, contract documents, standard details, general terms and conditions, and established policies and procedures.
  • Operate a motor vehicle to travel to construction sites and inspect a variety of complex construction projects to ensure compliance with plans, specifications, and work agreements.
  • Repair/replace gravity sewer lines, laterals, manholes and private and subdivision sewer connections to the City7s sewer.
  • Inspect and prepare field reports and records.
  • Report unforeseen field conditions and/or request information from the supervisor and/or project engineer for plans and specifications needing clarification.
  • Provide field training to lower-level inspectors.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Special Work Requirements

  • Occasional exposure to construction and traffic hazards, sewage gases, sewer treatment chemicals, paint fumes, noise, electrical hazards, and moving equipment.
  • Some physical dexterity required to perform field investigations which include climbing ladders, descending into trenches, tanks, and manholes, crawling through pipes, carrying sampling, measuring and testing equipment, and walking on uneven or obstructed surfaces.
  • Regular hours anticipated but may require shift, evening, night, weekend or holiday work to accomplish unusual problems or workloads and construction schedules.
  • If not provided a city vehicle, the employee is required to utilize their personal vehicle for regular job transportation and be compensated at union contract rates.
  • Will serve as a Disaster Response Worker during declared civil defense emergencies.

Salary: $6,495 per month (SR-21) includes $1,157 shortage differential.

Minimum Qualification Requirements

At time of application, you must be a citizen, national or permanent resident alien of the United States or a non-citizen eligible under federal law for unrestricted employment.

Education Requirement

Equivalent to graduation from high school. Responsible work experience demonstrating the ability to perform the essential functions of the job may be substituted for education.

Experience Requirement

Three (3) years of experience in inspecting or supervising construction work.

Substitution

  • An Associate a's degree in architectural or engineering drafting from a regionally-accredited college or university; or in the Applied Trades, Architectural, Engineering and CAD Technologies, and Carpentry Technology programs at Honolulu Community College, or similar academic program from a regionally-accredited college or university will substitute for two (2) years of the required experience.
  • A Bachelor's degree in Architecture or Engineering from a regionally-accredited college or university will substitute for all three (3) years of the required experience.

The substitution requirement must be met at the time of application. Education obtained outside of the United States must be comparable to a degree earned at a regionally-accredited college/university in the United States. In order to receive credit for the education, proper documentation, e.g., a foreign credential evaluation (FCE), must be provided. We also reserve the right to request further information about your academic program, evidence of comparability, or an original transcript.
