Overview

BUILDING CONSTRUCTION INSPECTOR II - LIHUE, KAUAI - (OHHI) - State of Hawaiʻi. Recruitment number OHHI-25134. This recruitment is conducted under the Operation Hire Hawaii (OH-HI) project, featuring an expedited hiring process to fast-track qualified applicants into job opportunities throughout Hawaiʻi.

Applications are reviewed for Legal Authorization to work in the US. Applicants who pass the Legal Authorization review will be referred to the hiring department for initial review, and may be contacted for an interview. The referral and potential interview do not guarantee that all Minimum Qualification Requirements are met. A thorough review will be conducted by the Department of Human Resources Development, and all applicants will be notified of the final disposition.

Responsibilities

  • Perform building construction inspection work at the FULL PERFORMANCE level for a broad range of inspection functions across various construction operations, materials, and methods.
  • Inspect and measure construction materials, check methods, inspect the erection of formwork and false work, and accept or reject concrete forms, equipment, and materials based on specifications or approved modifications.
  • Maintain detailed records of work completed and materials used; prepare routine inspection reports and monthly progress reports; perform other related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualification Requirements

To qualify, you must meet all of the following requirements:

  • Legal Authorization To Work: The State of Hawaii requires all government employees to be United States citizens, nationals, permanent resident aliens, or eligible for unrestricted employment under federal law.
  • General Experience: Two (2) years of journey-level experience in the building construction trades, with knowledge of construction methods, materials, safety practices, and ability to read blueprints and sketches.
  • Specialized Experience: One (1) year of either: (a) building construction inspection work experience; or (b) supervisory experience over a force of skilled trades workers responsible for interpreting plans and inspecting workmanship and materials for adherence to plans and specifications.
  • Basic Experience/Education: Experience demonstrating ability to read and understand oral and written instructions, write plainly, and perform arithmetic computations.
  • Driver's License: Valid driver's license at the time of appointment.
  • Lift and Carry: Ability to lift and carry objects up to 50 pounds unassisted and up to 70 pounds with assistance or equipment use.
  • Substitutions Allowed: Relevant substitutions as described in the Minimum Qualification Requirements may apply.
