Overview

Sacred Hearts Academy is a Catholic college preparatory school which provides girls and young women an exceptional education that inspires them to become leaders for their communities and the world. Under the general direction of the Upper School Principal, the Upper School Vice Principal provides support for the academic and extracurricular operations of the Academy for grades 7 through 12. Responsibilities include addressing and resolving student discipline issues, planning and coordinating student activities, and supporting the instructional leadership initiatives of the upper school. Collaborating closely with parents, teachers, administrators, and school counselors to address student needs effectively is also an important part of this position.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Education, or related field (degrees and course credits must be earned from a nationally or internationally accredited college or university)
  • Five years of teaching experience at the high school level – OR- an equivalent combination of education and experience may substitute for this requirement.
  • Three years of leadership experience (i.e., Department Chair, Grade-Level Coordinator, Instructional Coach, etc.)
  • Knowledge of contemporary educational trends and best practices in teaching and learning applicable to girls and young women.
  • Knowledge of grades 7 - 12 curriculum and instructional methodologies.
  • Intermediate proficiency in MS Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)

Desired Qualifications:

  • Master's Degree in Educational Leadership, or related field
  • Three years of leadership experience (i.e., Department Chair, Grade-Level Coordinator, Instructional Coach, etc.)
  • One year of school administration experience at the high school level (i.e., Vice Principal, Dean of Students, etc)
  • Experience in a Catholic, faith-based, or private school setting.
  • Strong knowledge of content area curriculum and instructional methodologies.
  • Demonstrated expertise in student development and leadership training, classroom management, student discipline methodologies, and best practices in academic, social-emotional, and behavioral guidance.
  • Report to work obligations to support the department and may require work outside normal business hours, if necessary.
  • Must be able to understand, read/write in English to follow basic instructions, and take direction from supervisors and clients.
  • Must meet training and background check qualifications and comply with Virtus/Safe Environment policy.
  • Able to work all shifts and extended hours.

Other Qualifications:

  • Experience working with students from diverse backgrounds, in multi-aged environments.
  • Good interpersonal, customer service and communication skills; strong organization skills; handling multiple tasks and projects, and good judgment.
  • Strong supervisory and leadership skills with the ability to effectively train others.
  • Demonstrated ability to protect and maintain confidential information.
  • Successful candidate will be able to work in an environment that utilizes excellent time and stress management skills.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Maintaining a positive and safe school environment by overseeing student discipline. This includes developing, implementing, and enforcing behavior management policies, addressing student conduct issues, and ensuring that disciplinary actions are consistent, fair, and in accordance with school guidelines and regulations.
  • Intake student behavioral referrals to address day-to-day concerns.
  • Work in conjunction with the Upper School Principal to issue consequences to students and communicate with parents.
  • Work alongside school counselors to address ongoing social and emotional concerns.
  • Student Activities (40%)
    • Plans and coordinates co-curricular and extracurricular activities. This includes Leadership Camp, assemblies, spirit weeks, Grandparents Day, International Day, student council elections, and any additional events that may be planned through Student Council or other school organizations.
    • Works with the upper school deans to coordinate schoolwide events that may be specific to a grade level or band of grades.
    • Facilitates Student Council meetings and events. Additionally, serving as a leadership role model for elected and appointed members of the student council.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned (10%)
    • Serves as community relations liaison for the Academy.
    • Actively participates as an effective member of the team by completing assigned duties, accepting additional assignments or reassignments.
    • Assist with seasonal peaks.
