Overview

ELECTRICIAN-ELECTRONIC EQUIPMENT REPAIRER (BC-11) [1 vacancy] City and County of Honolulu.

Under the general supervision of a Lead Electrician-Electronic Equipment Repairer and/or an Electrician-Electronic Equipment Repair Supervisor, this position participates in the installation, maintenance and repair of a wide variety of electrical systems, wiring systems, equipment and appurtenances for all facilities under the jurisdiction of the Department of Facility Maintenance.

Responsibilities
  • Participates in the installation, maintenance and repair of a wide variety of electrical systems, wiring systems, equipment and appurtenances for all facilities under the jurisdiction of the Department of Facility Maintenance.
  • Work schedule: Monday to Friday from 6:50 a.m. to 3:20 p.m.
  • Assigned to service locations that will be subject to applicable state and federal laws in order to access the facilities.
  • Ensure subordinates and self adhere to applicable safety practices, rules, and procedures, and perform all duties in a safe and acceptable manner to ensure the safety of self, co-workers, and the general public.
  • Perform other related duties as required.
Special Work Requirements
  • May be called out to work while on off-duty status to respond to electrical emergencies.
  • Provide a valid after-hours contact number.
  • Basic computer skills required.
  • Work at various heights from an electric lift, scaffolds, and/or aerial trucks.
  • May be exposed to working conditions that require a respirator.
  • Service the Joint Traffic Management Center (JTMC) and the USN Whitmore Naval Station; subject to applicable state and federal laws to access the facilities.
  • JTMC: fingerprint-based criminal history record check as part of pre-employment suitability in accordance with HRS 846-2.7(b)(37).
  • USN Whitmore Naval Station: access requires a federal background check.
Experience Requirement

Experience and/or training of sufficient scope and quality to competently perform the journey level skills and duties of this position. Such experience must demonstrate:

  • Knowledge of the principles and theories of electricity and electronics and experience in installing, maintaining, testing and repairing electrical/electronic equipment, systems, apparatus, and instruments;
  • Knowledge of and experience with the practices, tools, equipment and materials used in the electrical and electronic trades;
  • Knowledge of and ability to use testing equipment and testing procedures to maintain and repair electronic components;
  • Familiarity with hazards involved in working around energized lines and equipment and experience applying safety practices of the trades;
  • Experience in reading and interpreting blueprints, plans, diagrams and schematics of electrical and electronic circuits for wiring installations and modifications;
  • Ability to estimate material requirements for jobs;
  • Ability to work with dexterity and handle weights and loads;
  • Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions; and
  • Ability to maintain good working relationships with others.
License/Certificate Requirement

At the time of application: Valid Hawaii State journey-level electrician's license. Verification: Submit a copy of your current professional license. Prior To Appointment
  • Valid driver's license (type 3/automobile).
Prior to Completion of Probation
  • City and County of Honolulu Forklift Operator's Certification Card.
  • Certificate of Medical Clearance for Respirator Use.

Employment Suitability

To determine employment suitability, the Department of Human Resources will review criminal convictions, dismissals, and separations from military service under other than honorable conditions.

Fingerprinting Requirement

This position will be assigned to JTMC and USN Whitmore Naval Station. Unescorted access to secured areas requires fingerprint-based state and national criminal history record checks; access to USN Whitmore Naval Station requires a federal background check.
